Im thinking of starting to use www.bottomdollardomains.com
or
www.000domains.com
Any other low cost domain registrars that are worth looking into?

I think it's worth it to pay $5 extra per year to go with 000domains.com. Their service and support is outstanding, they even helped me with a domain I didn't have with them!

Try http://www.dotster.com. They're $14.95 per year but well worth it. I haven't tried the others, though.

Paying more does not necessarily mean better service. Take NSI for example - $35.00 = poor customer service.

http://www.000domains.com have the most amazing customer service - really, it's worth those extra $$$
Plus they use the OpenSRS system, so if they go bust ( I hope not! ) your domain is safe.

Actually, your domain is safe with any registrar you choose.
ICANN and Verisign have procedures in place with all registrars to deal with a registrar going bust.
You can review them at www.icann.org
