how much can a cobalt 4r with 512mb ram and raid disks handle GB/day ?


i would need it for some 8 mbit in total
can he handle that kind of traffic
(no cgi or php anything like that just http traffic )

I have a Raq4R in that configuration that has been doing almost 1.45 GB daily without so much as a hiccup.

It is running one cgi in Mod_Perl and two others as straight cgis.

This should be fine if you are not running any heavy database, scripts or other activities.

You may also want to check into mod_gzip. That compresses text files dynamically. This would add to CPU overhead, but would cut down on bandwidth.

Also, you may want to tweak apache's cache and memory usage settings to pull more items out of RAM.

We have a RaQ4 that transfers approx. 4 gigabytes per day. This is mainly PHP pages with MySQL (not image galleries or something like that).

I have a raq3 with 512 mb's transferring over 5.12 gigs/day. This month I transferred 154 gb ( had to pay 162$ for extra bandwith).

I use PHP and MYSQL intensively (I've over 12 databases, some of them with more that 25.000 records) but it works fine.

If you have seen my posts in this forum you will see that I've problems with my System OS partition getting Full (95%) near to crash. I don't know if this is caused by the high transfer... I would like to know.

I have little time to solve this :-(

If a raq3 can handle this, i think that a raq4 can handle something more :-)
