Ive been to alot of boards that deal with many topics and Ive never seen the kind of nastiness like Ive seen here from people that are supposed to be professionals...I was just wondering if its always like this?

Not usually. There are a few individuals such as the owner of hostingmatters who are here to cause trouble and at the same time desperately grab for clients.

Don't worry - they will be out of business very soon.

Nah. It comes in phases here just like anywhere else. It's been pretty calm around here lately, in fact - you'll see that this stuff didn't start up until yesterday, and that prior to that, there's a long spell of good posts. Folks here generally ask some tough questions of people when they post messages. Most of the time it's actually a civil place, with decent conversation. Minor annoyances. :)

This is not normal at all. Davey pops in every now and then and stirs up trouble. Then he leaves for a couple of months. Unfortunately he always comes back. If you do a search here you will see that prior to today, the last time Davey posted was a couple of posts back in May. Then we had a similar episode to today back in April. If you have some time, reading these pages:

www.technogirl.net/99tales/weaselboy.htm (http://www.technogirl.net/99tales/weaselboy.htm) and www.periscopeonline.net (http://www.periscopeonline.net)

will give you a little background on Davey.

I could not believe it the first time that I saw all that stuff. But at the same time, I had been scammed by Truehosting and it was kind of a relief when I found out that I wasn't the only one.

In a couple of days it should settle down back to normal.

Well, thanks. Stephanie is the graphics monkey (or is that title taken by Ben?), and I'm more of a content person, as you might imagine.

Nashoba - You still do not dare to give out your real name or address.

You are a fraud. You have NEVER been a customer of True Hosting.

You're damn right I am not giving you my personal information. When you had it, when I was a customer of yours you email bombed me and sent me threatening letters in the regular mail. Why on earth would I put myself through that again?

Dana, this is something I find a bit amusing, and I will refrain my my usual sarcastic remarks. Simply due to how many posts you make. Not sure of the number. You'll get there :)

Oh, that's a title based on the number of posts that one has made, that's all. You'll get there if you hang out here long enough.

Class, here's a homework assignment. And pay attention: you will see this material again.

Follow any of the TrueHosting threads. Then tell me Davey doesn't know who I am.

For the record, I'm Joey St. John-Ryan, of Seattle, Washington; keyboardist and saxophonist for the rock group Scream Radio. I write socio-political commentary for a 700+ member email list and have a website with archives at www.periscopeonline.net (http://www.periscopeonline.net)

Oops - guess I should have been more clear on that, eh? How are you feeling, anyway? I know it's winter Down Under - don't you know you should be wearing your rain gear?

Heya girl!

Yeah, I'm feeling better now.... Much less inclined to flame and more inclined to play mud wrestling (LOL)

Seriously, we had a terrible storm over here last night, with lightning bolts striking high rise buildings (yikes) and winds of up to 100 miles. Almost like a blooming hurricane in the middle of winter.

Btw, at the moment I feel like the guy in the logo, laughing and pointing the finger at... we all know what. Disgraceful eh? :D

Now you know what's it like here in Florida during hurricane season (even though it has been pretty quiet this season so far). :)

You're on the eastern side of Oz, right? Or am I confusing you with somebody out of aww?

Annette, LOL! I've had my fair share of hurricanes, so I know them a fair bit now.

And yes, same old, same old, same AWW buggered guy, same old east coast. :)

Btw, did I tell ya that I was gonna move off Below 10 Host at the end of the month? Probably not... I'm moving my stuff over to Tera-Byte to take advantage of PHP/ASP and do some dev work.... Meanwhile, I'm talking with Mark from SitePoint on Friday and have a chat.... They need some help with the localised version of Sitepoint and it looks like I might be able to help them (which means I can get out of my current boring job :))

Anyway, enough sane ranting, back to the mud wrestling. Excuse me while I slip back into the sumo suit. :D

Dana,

The great majority of the time, there is a sense of harmony around here. A lot of helpful information is shared and the rookie of the week learns that unlimited bandwidth is a lie :-D There is disagreemnt, of course, and it is generally civil. Any criticism is of companies and their policies (and an occasional inappropriate posting).

However, periodically, someone shows up to disrupt things and begins calling people names. You can see for yourself. It is almost guaranteed that the reaction to some people will produce a discussion where the little flaming folder is most appropriate and there will be in excess of 100 posts. The vitriol will also spill over into other discussions even if there are totally unrelated in their topics.

You can also look back at messages prior to yesterday and see the usual atmosphere that prevails. Most of us don't always agree with each other, but the majority of us do respect each other. That is all that is really necessary.

Gah - I know who you are. I thought I had written "location" into that message, but no matter. And I saw that messge from you about the php/ASP stuff. Finally moving off the homestead, eh? :)

Tee hee. Yeah, also since Below10Host and Alabanza couldn't give me a firm date on the PHP upgrading to v4, I decided to jump ship a bit early.

Looks like php4 won't be until after the first of the year, so if you need it now...well, it's probably better to go. Besides, it isn't like you could never go back.
