ThePlanet deals. alapo 04-02-2003, 11:47 AM 7.3. 8.0 hasnt proved itsself yet, and I usually shy away from .0 releases. Angel78 04-02-2003, 11:52 AM I have seen few posts about issues with 8.0 and some of the Cpanel functions, but on the other hand it is supposed to have "newer software" istalled, and lot of people are using it. Any major No No's for 8.0? alapo 04-02-2003, 11:59 AM Originally posted by Angel78 ... but on the other hand it is supposed to have "newer software" istalled ... I think they all use the same software? Same apache versions, etc I think anyways. ckevin 04-02-2003, 12:33 PM I think it's the majority of us to use 7.3 instead of 8.0. For me, I would not going to 8.0 with cpanel until the industry (at least the majority of CPanel users) have moved to 8.0. Erich 04-02-2003, 12:36 PM Originally posted by alapo I think they all use the same software? Same apache versions, etc I think anyways. I believe that 8.0 comes with apache 2.0 & vsftpd while 7.3 ships with apache 1.3.x & wuftpd alapo 04-02-2003, 12:38 PM Originally posted by Erich I believe that 8.0 comes with apache 2.0 & vsftpd while 7.3 ships with apache 1.3.x & wuftpd Ships with... I do not think CPanel actually uses apache 2.x, etc. Angel78 04-02-2003, 01:11 PM ok for now, I think that 7.3 box will do the trick ( at least they (theplanet) promissed to set-it-up with an uptodate image = Kernel..etc) inteltechs 04-02-2003, 02:46 PM 7.3 of course :) DomiNET.net 04-02-2003, 03:03 PM Five of our servers are running RH 8. No problems. Stable as 7.3 Angel78 04-02-2003, 04:46 PM Originally posted by DomiNET.net Five of our servers are running RH 8. No problems. Stable as 7.3 With Cpanel? alapo 04-02-2003, 04:48 PM Seeing as 8x RHN support expires same as 7x... why not go with the trusted proven reliable one. sprintserve 04-02-2003, 05:56 PM 7.3. 8.0 is quirky with Cpanel. Lots of unexplained bugs Erich 04-02-2003, 06:30 PM isn't 7.2 supposed to be more stable than 7.3? That's what I recall to have heard a few times? akashik 04-03-2003, 01:28 AM as long as a server is well patched it's fine to run an older system. I'd rather run an older, well tested, and patched version of RedHat than a newer .0 release. Greg Moore JMolina 04-03-2003, 03:37 PM I got RH 8.0 with an updated kernel running the lastest cpanel 6.2.0. Runs perfectly no problems what so ever. Except the common issues with cpanel :D Kiaska 04-03-2003, 04:50 PM I'd say 7.3. I'm regularly hearing on cPanel forums and here that 8.0 and cPanel don't mix... Personally I wouldn't use a .0 release unless it had something that I really wanted that previous, proven versions didn't have, and when it comes to it, 8.0 has none. Sure it ships with some different web server software, but myself I always find it easier to use the software recommended by cPanel, which at the current time is: Apache 1.3.27 PHP 4.3.1 MySQL 3.23.56 It always works out easier if you use cPanel's choice although sometimes (especially with FTP) you can have problems and need to install something else... Hope this helps Angel78 04-04-2003, 05:03 AM amm I went for 7.3 ( ThePlanet) thanks for your input. ( now testing ThePlanet and RS ) ArthurDavis 04-04-2003, 05:26 AM I don't trust .0 releases of anything. I waited until the second version of Winblows 98 came out before buying it :) I had a feeling there'd be another edition, especially after I saw some of the problems with it on friends' computers. Virosoft 04-04-2003, 06:26 PM I had redhat 8.0 on a computer at home and I let some people try to see if it was secure.. its terrable. to many bugs. go with 7.3 Aushosts 04-04-2003, 07:17 PM Originally posted by sprintserve 7.3. 8.0 is quirky with Cpanel.
