Dear All,

I'm a new bie from INDIA .
I'm taking up a raq4 at rackshack and would like to add 200 virtual domains on it primarily for the mailing purpose as a big range of our customers do not want to get their sites developed but prefer if they have one underconstruction page and have lots of POP3 mailboxes for their organisation needs. But I have a few queries and would be glad if you could help out..

1 Can i customise the control panel for each virtual domain so only the E mail features are visible and rest features are disabled . So that if my customer wish to go for ftp he could first upgrade his package and then could get it.

2 Which is the best web based mail solution to be installed on cobalt which is easy ,stable with lots of features and should be light so that it may be accessed easily by the client side .

3 Is the cobalt fast enough for POP3 mails downloading .

4 Can i give the client SMTP services with the my outgoing server requires authentication clause.

thanks for all your support

Ravs:) :) :) :) :)

1) You can, but it is not easy. It requires editing some HTML files in Cobalt's control panel directory. It can be done though.

3) Sure. POP3 mail does not put a large load on servers, so it should be fine.

4) Yes, you can install a program called POP before SMTP. I'm not exactly sure where to find it, but I am pretty sure there is a .pkg file for it. Maybe someone can point it out here? The program allows your customers to send mail afer they have authenticated via POP.

I just ran accross NeoMail the other day. I have not installed it yet, but the feature set and GUI look great.

It is based on PERL. One issue is that the scripts run suid, which means you have to disable CGIwrap for that domain hosting the Webmail service. They provide instructions on doing this.

If anyone has experience with NeoMail, please post comments, pitfalls, or praise.

Thanks.
