Ericd 06-12-2001, 09:43 PM Are you going to or to move in vegas, Dylan :D I guess NetZero have a number for every States and Provinces. You get 40 hours per month. http://www.netzero.com/ cheers! Dylan 06-12-2001, 10:41 PM Thanks, I looked at NetZero, they ask too many questions. Any other options? I just need access, that's all. Are you going to or to move in vegas Am I going to  or to Move? I wouldn't mind. Unfort. I'm only going there for a few days to attend a seminar. creepcolony 06-12-2001, 10:49 PM eh...bluelight? it's 12 hours a month http://blsjcisp02.bluelight.com/?&BLReturnURL=www.bluelight.com or juno http://dl.www.juno.com/get/web/ or you can just sign up for aol or earthlink or something and get the first month free and then cancel Ericd 06-12-2001, 10:52 PM Oh, i thought you were moving there :D Dylan 06-12-2001, 10:54 PM Next :D The basic bluelight service will be finished within the first day of me using it. Dylan 06-12-2001, 10:58 PM grrr.... Juno. I'd like to check-out their services now. I don't want to battle setting it up while I'm in the US. Dear Prospective Juno Member, As mentioned on the previous screen, U.S. law restricts the international distribution of the Juno software. We have determined through your Internet Service Provider's Domain Name Service (DNS) entry that your computer is not physically located in the United States and thus we cannot allow you to download Juno at this time. So, Next :D jiminsd 06-13-2001, 12:15 AM Have you checked Freedom list or have asked on their forum? http://www.freedomlist.com Get-Hosted.com 06-13-2001, 02:26 AM I'd have to recommend one of those AOL startups... they give you A LOT of free hours in your first month, and after that you could just cancel. Dylan 06-13-2001, 02:38 AM Thanks jim, I'll check the site out later. G-H, the problem with AOL is that I won't be able to use Outlook. SI-Chris 06-13-2001, 02:43 AM The problem with using AOL as your temporary ISP is that they block port 25 and provide no SMTP servers of their own to send mail. So you're stuck using Web-based e-mail or using an AOL e-mail address. There used to be some great free dial-ups with access in Las Vegas. The last one I tried was AltaVista, which was awful (the modem *never* connected at more than 28.8). All of the major ISPs have dialups in Las Vegas, so if good connectivity is important to you I'd look into paying $20 for one of those. (The best dial up I've used in Las Vegas is, believe it or not, AT&T.) TheComputerGuy 06-13-2001, 07:40 AM Trustme go with Netzero, they may ask alot of questions but guess what its ok, they cant read a lie from the truth creepcolony 06-13-2001, 08:52 AM i'm on aol and i can use outlook...just not with my aol address Dylan 06-13-2001, 06:37 PM They haven't got a country field on their form. I can't put the hotels address on. I know, I'll put the address of WHT on the form :D j/k creep, what do you set your SMTP to? creepcolony 06-13-2001, 09:00 PM i forgot, and i can't check cuz outlook express freezes my computer now for some reason DarkVengeance 06-29-2001, 04:37 PM Dylan, you can use my smtp if you want. Set it to www.galaxygames.net. zz4 07-13-2001, 03:55 AM hey..help dylan. He's a nice person.(not trying to be funny) I'm in Connecticut.(whatever that means) Can't you get one of those AOL discs where they say no credit card needed? Outlook Express? Theres still endless free email services. Even places like http://groups.yahoo.com/ you could sign up 30,000 people and email them all with a messageboard posting.(and messages get be inputed) As to signing up for many things many places don't know if your real with info or not.(or care) Credit Card matches? Don't know the problem so excuse me. Scott 07-13-2001, 04:13 AM Dylan, I'm curious, are you going to be connecting through the hotel i.e. your room? I'm wondering what the per min. modem charges would be (if any) at your particular hotel. XTStrike 07-13-2001, 04:52 AM Just to clear up the AOL SMTP Issue. AOL DO provide SMTP servers of their own, if you dial up to AOL and try to send an SMTP e-mail it will send, you can put whatever SMTP server address you want in the SMTP field, smtp.stupiddomainname.com Try sending an e-mail from outlook, you will notice when you get the e-mail on the other end it comes in looking like its from your AOL e-mail address. EVERY communication via port 25 is re-routed to their HUGE SMTP servers, you can check this by looking at the header information. I have an extremely interesting document on how AOL's network works and will post it in a new thread later today then I get home. Scott 07-13-2001, 06:19 AM Dylan, forgot to post this Las Vegas forum (http://lasvegas.com/forums) URL. doug@vslims.com 07-13-2001, 06:23 AM Originally posted by Dylan Are there any free dial-up internet providers in the Las Vegas area? Dylan, Most of the free ISP's in the US are history. Juno and NetZero are now one and they both suck. Bluelight will give you a very limited amount of time online. If you want to just buy one month of good web access go to http://www.hawkcommunications.com/ Access from any OS. I have been using them for a while and they are good. Dylan 07-13-2001, 07:57 PM Thanks but I've already been to Vegas and back. I found a local ISP that provides temporary accounts. It was $10/$20 (can't remember) to setup and then $1/day. Call charges? None. |
