What is the best linux distribution to use for a dedicated firewall

A BSD distro would be better. Better TCP/IP stack and incredibly reliable under load.

Hi,

I had good experience with astaro linux [http://www.astaro.com/] a few years ago when we used it for our corporate firewall. I don't use it anymore, but it is worth looking.

Just install it, configure it via https and you are done! .. a firewall is ready.

Coyote Linux is specifically for being used as a firewall i recommend slackware or freebsd still, however...
