I am looking for a good Windows host that meets the following:

1) Must NOT be an Interland owned company and have no plans to sell to Interland.

2) Have 24 hour telephone support service.

3) Must have own data center. A server in the basement does not count as a data center.

4) Perfer a medium sized company that has been in business for a few years with good reputation.

5) ASP with the database in a directory not accessable from a website browser.

6) SSL not needed but require the usual bells and whistles that make for a good host plan, SSI, etc. "If-Modified-Since HTTP headers" would be nice.

7) Did I miss anything?

After an exhaustive search this company came highly reccommended on this BB.

try http://www.fluidhosting.com as well. I can't recommend them since I've been with them about 2 days. They don't have the 800 number but one of the support is always avail via microsoft msg. I just checked 2 are available now in M$ msg. I've had two questions which were answered within 1 hour via the online ticket manager ( I did not want to use msg since I had a long question both times... plus I wanted to test the ticket manager response time).

Also, all the other stuff I don't know if they offer... you should contact them directly.

Also, putting this in the "hosting wanted" section of the board might make more sense.

I might be wrong... But shouldn't this be in the Web Hosting Requests forum?

Actually, I did not want to receive all sorts of spam mails from hosting companies. I would rather have a disscussion in the thread as to who might be good. If I have misunderstood, I am sorry but I did not intend this as an invitation to receive mail from hosts.

Choosing a host is really scarry. Get a bad one and they can really screw you up but good.

Perhaps I should have stated it more correctly but what I hope to accomplish in this thread is to find hosts with good reputations.

Ok sorry I didn't understand :P
Well your list likes fine to me... Make sure you discuss their TOS with them (like we've been talking about in another post) and make sure it's to your liking before you signup... Good luck :)

Dear msf,

Mmmm, your first post I see. You *really* signed up to WHM just to recommend crystaltech? Not that I'm suggesting you work for crystaltech or anything, of course...

Everyone has a first post so let him have his benefit of the doubt. If you notice a trend then I'd start getting suspicious, but I see nothing wrong with what he posted.

Dear TDMWeb,

I am sorry, maybe I should have posted a first question to more of your liking before I responded. I found this forum during my serach for a Windows 2000 Hosting company. Instead of just posting questions, I read and searched other posts and found the info I needed. CrystalTech comes highly reccommended on this forum.

FYI: I have tried the the following companies:

Hostway
Interland
Affinity
Valueweb
Verio

I was not happy with any of them.

For the record, I do not work for CrystalTech.

TDMWeb,

Thank you for your recommendation. I have been looking into CrystalTech. Yes, they do seem to have a good reputation on this board, don't they?

I called their tech support on the phone at night and was impressed by their willingness to talk to me. I am located in Japan and really want a host I can call during business hours (Japan Time) which would be the middle of the night in the U.S.

I also sent them a number of emails and have been getting very fast responses.

Looking over their plans, they seem to have what I want. I did a traceroute and a ping from Japan to them and compared it to my other US based hosts. CrystalTech seems to have about one or two extra hops but when I added up the ms, it takes a little less time.

Now I have to spend a little time looking over their TOS.
