View Full Version : Bye Bye HostRocket!

For 9 days my server has been down over 95% of the time with MySQL issues. Also alot of my customer sites are experiencing outages from down sites, GD library issues after the PHP upgrade and various MySQL issues. I have repeatedly asked that the site be moved and all I get is bs! I have been with them from the beginning and now me and my 242 customer sites are going elsewhere and all you had to do was answer my tickets with the request of one site being moved, and fix the various errors on the other sites.

I need to know if anyone has a good hosting provider with equal to or close to what HR has but better support. HR publishes a toll free number but all you get is "Due to a high volume of support tickets we will not be offering phone support today".

Hmm, I've heard some good things about HostRocket on these forums, but then again, I've also heard a few bad things, just not as much as good... Well I've never really looked into what they offer, but I'm sure someone on here would know who could give you a deal as good as they have. Good luck to you.

If you ever want to know about a webhost, just do a search for it on these forums, alot of webhosts use it, and alot of people talk about webhosts here. If you can find a few good posts about them, then do your homework, and talk to the actual owner/employees of the host, and if you think they are good, give them a shot. Just remember, if you have any doubts at the beginning, DON'T go with them, it'll only end up going wrong. As I said before, good luck :)

You're facing exactly the same problem as me.. I'm probably gonna move out after my billing cycle is over (this may). Currently mysql is down on my server (host26) and under the "live" status page on HR's support site, it says "Running". I already sent in a ticket about 2 hours ago but no response.

I'm on the lookout for another host. Have a couple in mind, and one willing to sponsor me [its just a personal blog and a couple of small friend's sites].

Thanks again for the reply...I have been doing web design since 1995 and have had my share of broken promises form hosts (and believe me the list is long) so I think I can find a good deal and host...I also have a list of questions I ask that helps me in determining if they can provide what they promise.

I was also a Network Engineer for many years and know what to ask and how to dig deeper and get around the crap and bs.

You would think after all these years I would have started my own hosting business...lol

I just looked at it and your friend is missing alot of info on his pages to get someone like me to even consider it...like I said...I have over 240 customer accounts to move there (which would be done gradually over time and as the accounts are ready to expire at HR).

I edited the first post to reflect this...sorry for the confusion.

Are you telling me you used HostRocket as a reseller or something? Wow, bad choice if so

You might want to try www.hostblock.net

You'll have trouble finding someone that will say something bad about Robert and Co.

Excellent hosting is never too expensive.
Well maybe in some cases, but httpme sure isn't. Ask yourself if you intend to keep all 240 customers. If that many customers can't make you enough money to get a good provider, then you did something wrong.

Then get used to the dissapointment of sites being down and support not answering. You get what you pay for.

Just assuming with that many sites you were on and would want a dedicated server....is my assumption correct? That would certainly influence the recommendations people would give you.

Yes...I think it is better I go that way so I can control the accounts and billing.

I have tried www.hostforweb.com and www.flexihostings.net and both are pretty good. And I have not found anything really negative about www.flexihostings.net

To All,

We are one of Dark_Wizard's (Bob) accounts.

He is very concerned about his clients, and it was his generous help nearly 3 years ago when I posted a request for help at the VB Support Forum that Bob stepped forward and helped us out of a bad situation with another hosting company. He did it for free, and the other host owner was dismayed over anyone helping another person for "free".

We ended up a client of Dark-Wizard, who (as he has said) had been with Hostrocket from their start years ago. It was also the personal relationship that Bob had with the owner of Hostrocket that we relied on whenever their were techincal challenges to our shared server that went on after days of no response.

Bob hung in their over the years, and the owner of Hostrocket did improve their customer support and their hardware and their bandwidth. For a very long stretch we had no complaints with our service from Hostrocket, and we very rarely had to contact Bob for anything.

Something has changed in the recent past that no one seems to know (including Bob). Only Hostrocket knows what is going on right now.

The president of our company (IPIU), Mr. Don Merritt (who was President Reagan's Communication Director in the 1980's) has given us very strict instructions to resolve whatever needs to be done without further delay. We have (and will always) emailed with respect to Hostrocket and Bob. Today I PM'd the owner of Hostrocket too, as I do not want to discuss our challenges on the public boards.

But I must admit, I was shocked to see Dark-Wizard's post here. We had no idea that his relationship Hostrocket's owner has gone the way of no reasonable solution. In the past Bob has always been fair minded and so has HR's owner. But business is business, and Bob has his clients to answer to. And our business has over 19,000 to answer to.

So I am keeping an eye on this topic, because there seems to be some excellent advice coming from the forum members.

Keep up the good comments, and (as we all expect) keep it respectful.

David

As a followup, the private message I sent to the owner, Brendan, proved worthwhile. He has communicated with us and all of our hosting challenges were corrected within a few hours the same day. :)

I would encourage others to read first Brendan's many comments posted on this forum over the last few days, and then follow his instructions perfectly (including the respect I know all of you can do). Will it work? It did for us.

In any event, I wish you all the best that life can provide. You all have many talents.

David

If you have to contact the owner of the company to get a problem resolved everytime then something is seriously wrong with that company.

Being that hostrocket is running so many different webhosting companies each with their own support system it's no wonder their support staff can't keep up.

called host blocks phone number, went to voicemail - guess that support isn't exactly 24/7

It is probly like most people now days. They say 24/7 but forget to mention that only means email for the most part.

I generally get a live receptionist when calling their direct long distance number during business hours.

But Brendan has posted other more fruitfull means of getting a trouble ticket answered, and the "system" he now recommends. If all methods result in little or no response, he has been willing to take a private message from you here on this board.

Yes, there is much to read on this forum under the search of "hostrocket". But if your intentions are to get your support issue resolved, then the reading is worth your time to get the help you require.

But if your intention is to assassinate the character of HR, then why waste your time? Just move on.
