Hi Guys and gals,
I never do this, but I need to know how many of you are having or have had issues with DV2 dual processor servers going down at random times. It's great to see that their network is stable, I just wish the equiptment was stable. We have 3 dual servers and 2 go down randomly almost weekly, no errors in the error_log or anything. No errors at all. They just freeze up. Only thing that works is either a reboot from APC or reboot from DV2. I never vent on this forum, but I just wanted to know if anyone else is having these issues. It is past the point of rediculous.

Matt,
When did you get these boxes. Mine are from a recent batch. Around middle of February the servers went up. Also, just so everyone is aware, DV2 has been contacted on about 10-15 occassions regarding these wonderfull servers, as we want to give them every benefit of the doubt.

What kernel are you running?

Hey Marc,
2.4.20-grsec on all servers with the ptrace patch. One of these servers runs perfectly just two others do not.

Had the servers since last year Steven.. dont think I'm the same batch as you..
Can you ask them to replace the hardware or move you to another server?
Are they overheating or is there a RAM problem or anything like that DV2 could solve. All the way up to replacing the full server and moving your HDD over to a new one. If that still fails then perhaps your HDD is at fault. If they were in the same batch maybe there is a batch of faulty hardware...

Steven we have one that just dies low loads all the time. Out of the blue decides to die. A apc reboot fixes it for another 50-60 days :)

I believe you installed a kernel that we dont if it works or not. Any reason you dont want to go with a kernel we know works? we have a changed hardware till we are blue in the face - it is not a hardware problem. If you wnat - we can fix your kernel for you to one that works. But please dont change it to something non standard.

-Steven It would probably be the kernel. When they started to offer the dual processor servers about a month a go (or more), one or two of the servers had a kernel version that was not compatible with the server. They upgraded the kernel and since then the servers have been running perfectly (and super fast). Check your /var/log/messages file after a reboot to see if the kernel is giving out an error. I'm sure sailor will be happy to sort out the kernel for you as he's already stated that there are no hardware problems.
