We have just implemented a pay-per-click model at http://all-hosts.com which is very similar to Goto.com
All Hosts Directory allows web hosting companies to list their hosting plans for free in our directory, but you may now bid for higher placement in our search results.
One of the problems which web hosts often encounter while listing their plans in the various web hosting directories is an inability to show up high enough in the results when a visitor conducts a search. Typically, you list your plans, they get buried in the database, and there's nothing you can do.
At All-hosts.com, you now have total control over your listing. By placing a bid amount, you cause your listing to move up through the crowd.
For example - If you place a bid of $0.25 on all your plans, those plans will show up very near the top of the results. You won't actually be charged $0.25 unless a unique visitor clicks on your listing and visits your web
site.
The beauty of this is that you only pay for results.
To facilitate this new model, we set you up with a 'Host Bucks' account. You get $5.00 deposited in your host bucks account just for listing your company.
You may use Host Bucks to pay for bids and other advertising opportunities.
You may also add to your Host Bucks account by sending us visitors (We add $0.10 to your account for each unique visitor you send us.) or even by simply updating your account information. You receive a nice shiny 'Host Dime' every time you log into your account.
