(Hopefully I stuck this in right spot, if not, Moderators please move? - danke)

We are getting hit by a couple of incredibly stupid spammers, and need a 'polite' way to ensure they get 'taken care of'.

What I'd like to do is intercept their emails, automatically forward it on to a know abuse email account, AND send them back a "Thanks for the SPAM. All emails sent to us by you have been forwared back to your admin for punishment under your TOS. This is an auto-responder message, and we will NEVER see your crap emails. Please SOD Off!" message.

I'd prefer to do it all on the server end, in the event they decide to start sending large files or worse. I can set up an auto-responder but will lose all other emails sent to that address. I can block the email address, but it just disappears, no replys sent.

Servers we are on run WHM/CPanel. I'm open to suggestions, etc.

From what I get myself I've found the most obnoxious spammers don't give any valid email address, they ask you to order by FAX or phone. So there's no way to return this mail :(

This spammer is just some Luser AOHell kiddie who wont take 'leave me alone' seriously. The last 40 or so msgs have been forwarded to aohells tos police, but so far, 1 month later it continues. We dont want to just avoid the spam, we want to seriously spank this monkey. Have considered getting the legal beagles involved, but thats less, "fun".

I think the best way to take care of a good portion of spam, is to act interesting in the product. Give them what they want, insist it is cool and you want an email address to talk to somebody about buying, wait till they give you a nice real email address. Then maybe a phone number. What you do from here is your call.

I wrote a program a number of years ago, which as far as i know is still not illegal to this day. What it did was call all the 439-XXXX numbers in my area, which happened to all be pagers. it would page the victims tell phone number with *911 on the end. The victim would in turn get about 8,000 people calling his house asking why they paged at 3 am with emergency on the end. :-) I take no responsibility for your actions though .

The problem with sending them back a message may be that many spammers relay through servers and do not have a valid e-mail address. You might simply send a message to some poor schnook who hasn't closed their server to relaying.

Faxing about 100 black pieces of construction paper takes care of this.

I had a local spammer fax me twice recently. On a weekend night, when I figured he wouldn't be around to turn off his fax machine, I faxed him a white on black message with one word per page.

The message was:

you

call

a

skydiving

spammer
?

skeet!

Of course, I faxed it twice, since he spammed me twice. Turnabout is fair play.

For those who don't know, faxing white on black messages or black sheets of paper uses up their fax toner really fast and costs them a bit of money.

ouch. I'm gonna jot those down...no fax problems yet..but its good to have info for future use.

We had the idea of using this lusers email addy and posting it on all the newsgroups that deal with shall we say "interesting" subjects...couple thousand porn/spam and "you suck spammer" emails a day for a while might clog up thier box...or make mommy n daddy take away thier net access...

it's just frustrating....me, i'd just filter it at the server. if it comes from addy "X" forward to /dev/null.

But the person going ape-S! about this is my rather 'touchy' webmaster. :cool: She likes doing it the hardway. (not that way ya pervs.) :D

You can learn more at nanae, the best anti-spam newsgroup, as well as a number of web sites. you might want to do the following also, collect some real news stories of convictions of spammers and e-mail or fax them to your spammer. It might make them start thinking about the possible consequences of what they are doing.

You can check various state laws and those of other countries and see if any are pertinent. If so, you can report to the proper authorities. You never can tell, it might help.

What I do is...

The first time I spamcop.net it. If I get another I forward it back to them (if real email) and to uce@ftc.gov. And spamcop it again.
