Has anyone gotten the 3COM 3cSOHO100-TX NIC to work under FreeBSD? The pci/if_xl.c file seems to support it (the xl interface driver), but upon bootup I get this:

pci0: <unknown card> (vendor=0x1106, dev=0x3057) at 7.4
xl0: <3Com 3cSOHO100-TX OfficeConnect> port 0xc000-0xc07f mem 0xdffcdf80-0xdffcdfff irq 12 at device 9.0 on pci0
xl0: Ethernet address: 00:04:00:04:c4:3f
xl0: eeprom failed to come ready
xl0: no PHY found!
device_probe_and_attach: xl0 attach returned 6

However, it finds the fxp0 and fxp1 just fine (Intels built onto the mobo). The FreeBSD hardware support docs all say they support this nic, but I can't seem to get it to work. Might be something stupid I'm overlooking.

Hmm... do you know if the actual hardware is ok? It might be that there is a fault with the NIC.

Your best option is to ask on the freebsd mailing list, the people there are very helpful.

I tried 2 different ones (they came free a while back with our switch). I'm just going to go out and get some different NICs in the morning, I think. I always have problems with 3Coms for some reason (bsd, linux, and windows).

Thanks for the help. :)

Good luck, I don't have much luck with 3com kit either. I now stick to Linksys, DLink and Intel mostly.
