hello all,
Recently my webhost has been constantly down, apparently due to some DDoS attacks aimed at the FDC DataCenters (the datacenters he uses) is any other datacenters experiencing such downtime? My site is down alot, probably about 24hrs a week although I haven't counted. Is there nothing they can do about these attacks? It is very frustrating having my site down all the time like this. Thanks.

Within the last month I've read here about several DC's being attacked. It hasn't been anything like 24 hours a week though.

As far as your question about is there anything that they can do about it, it most cases yes. Smaller DDoS attacks can be blocked by good monitoring, firewalls and competent techs. However, large scale attacks by a group that actually knows what they're doing are more difficult to defend against. I see no reason why you would be getting the amount of downtime you are talking about though.

Don't blame your webhost, it really was an FDC problem. I think they got the problems fixed now.

Here we go again :) "Webhost or Upstream" Problem.

I think it's both, because ultimately your web host choose the upstream or provider they want to use. So it's pretty much contributory if they didn't choose one that's good enough to handle the attacks promptly.
