I want some help in FTP. I am using linux server. I want to make sub directories in a domain and give ftp right to each sub directory owner. The concept is like angelfire, geocities. Like www.angelfire.com/jolly. Here user jolly can ftp into his directory. And can i restrict the directory limit like 20MB or 30MB. Is there any kind of script which can do all these things. Please let me know :)

The one I know iServer ( www.iserver.com ) the web hosting that allows you to do that

Or you can use Community Architect ( http://www.communityarchitect.com ) which allows you give your users free hosting 20MB with FTP/Email access at your end @domain.com name whichever you want and they get sub domain too.

Just a though to help you

Enjoy :)

You need to develop your own software to do that.

Jolly asked me in the chat last night and though I couldn't figure out exactly why he wants this, nor how the server usually sets up FTP accounts, he is using Ensim on that server (if it helps).

I'm not exactly sure but I think this would work with WebDAV (webdav.org) that's for distributed authoring and allows to have users who get access to certain folders. There's an apache module mod_dav which is supposed to provide support for this.

It's not FTP, WebDAV is an extended http protocol. But maybe it'd be ok?

Check out http://www.ensim.com/products/webppliancels-1.shtml for the control panel. You will come to know what we can do with control panels and what are the limitations.

I have the similar question in mind. I heard HomeFree is awesome... but isn't it written in perl. I would prefer php. Another thing I'm searching for..is the script that will allow users to create webpage from browser. Like those in Geocities (page builder) or something that will allow users to implement pre-built templates to his own use right from browser and edit his own text from browser....upload graphics and html through browser.

Jolly, I still don't know what you are exactly trying to offer. Not sure if this is a wide scale type thing you'd like to offer or just something you want for a few people. I suggest you email your provider, or ensim, or... ???

Both of you might find what you are looking for at http://www.hotscripts.com though...

Chicken I want to do this thats why I am looking for some help.
Like lot of sites do they give ftp rights to the users in sub directory.
Like www.angelfire.com/chicken
here chicken can ftp into his chicken folder not in root of angelfire or anyones directory. All the facility like front page ext. cgi-bin are give in the sub directory.
And we can assign the limit of the sub directory like 10Mb or @20 Mb.
Can you help me in doing this:rolleyes: ::rolleyes: .......

You either need to hire a programmer or program code on you own to create something like that.

Even if program you want does exist, it wouldn't be cheap. I remember seeing similar program for $700 sometime ago.

I don't want to depend on someone. I want to do it bymyself but I need little help how it will be done. Suppose today I hire someone and pay him $$$ and after 2 months I want to add new features or remove somefeatures again I will be looking for someone to do this. So its better I do it by myself with some help.

Not entirely so.
For myself, I can not create any complicated scipts but once I have the source code of the script, I can spend sometime and understand how it works. From that moment, I can modify and add/remove additional features.

P.S. I do not have any professional knowledge over any scripting language but I do have years of experience dealing with almost all kind of script and mysql database.
