If you're really interested in photography, get yourself a manual camera (used around $100) and print your own photos. If you're interested, but not that interested, then errrr... well what exactly is it that you want to do? More mega-pixels just means better resolution, which is good, but...

well... recently i have been going around taking nature shots with my cybershot... and well.. i just dont have the control i want with it.. i am really ameteur but i am just not satisfied with the pictures i get... they are all fuzzy and stuff. Some are really cool angles, that are just ruined by the low quality of my camera. Basically what I want to do is take those infamous 'calendar shots' of scenic or natural things... (no not calendar shots of women)

you see what i mean? I have seen the d100 and was very impressed with it... and i am thinking about getting it... this is because it seems to be the firts SLR digital camera...

They've been around for years, however when I sold them (another past life), they rang in around $15,000 ! Seems that $1,999 is quite reasonable :D

Well, if you are looking for more control, that's the type of camera you should buy, however if you're looking to be a purist (ie: I design web sites I notepad, heh), you'll want to print your own b/w prints using a darkroom. 1/2 the image is produced on film, the other 1/2 is produced in the darkroom. :D

Well, promise me something:

Before you die, if you really do have an interest in photography, you'll take a class at a local community college and learn how to print a picture. Everyone should do it! Really... it is almost magical, especially the first time! (I did it as a business and it gets less magical when you have to print many pictures and stay up until 4 a.m. trying to get them all perfect for delivery the next day!)

You also might be able to find something digital high-end but under $2K with manual focus and maual settings (shutter speed and aperture), hot shoe/flash sync and that's really about all you'd need.

I won't stop you from getting that Nikon though (so long as I can borrow it!), as I've owned many Nikons (F3 with motor drive (http://www.keh.com/shop/SHOWPRODUCT.CFM?CRID=4751605&SKID=NK0299905735605&SID=newused&BID=NK&CID=02&SOID=N&ISPRICE=594.0) and F4S (http://www.keh.com/shop/SHOWPRODUCT.CFM?CRID=4751605&SKID=NA0200108682704&SID=newused&BID=NA&CID=02&SOID=N&ISPRICE=959.0) and some FE2's), and they are great!

Actually there is a photography school locally, so i may just see how they are.

is it hard to develop pictures... how much does it cost to start off?

i mean, could i go get a CHEAP 35mm camera to mess around with the developing process... because i still want that D100 -- but then... how would i go about developing a digital picture off of something like that?

wow.. you have got me interested in developing my own pics and its quite interesting... i have been Reading (http://www.agfanet.com/en/cafe/photocourse/bwcourse/cont_index.php3) about how to develop the pictures.. and it seems to be inexpensive and i can do it at my house(!)... i think when i get some extra money i may do this to see what its like.

my question now is... do i have to buy b/w film or what..or could i just use like, any film and have it come out b/w?
