Hi guys,

Can I get a clarification on what is and is not allowed in regards to offers in this forum.

If you pop through some of the recent posts you'll see Vince from jtan.com offering help on some of the requests for help.

I quote from the post 'Stable host required' :

Ryan,
Maybe the JTAN ProWeb account? PHP, mySQL, CGI, SSI, Unlimited Subdomains and foreign DNS is all offered. The price is $22.99 a month. Check out www.jtan.com, (http://www.jtan.com,) or e-mail me at vince@jtan.com for more information.

Although I have no problem with them, I should point out that the Advertising forum states in its blurb to 'post your ads/offers here'.

Question is : do Vince's posts contravene the guidelines, and as a result, should all the offers be posted in the *advertising* forum? Or are Vince's posts technically OK? I really don't mind either way but I'm curious as to what the official line is (and also what other regulars think).

Thanks :)

P.S. Nothing personally against you Vincent, I just need some clarification.

BC,

I am very sorry if I have gone against the guidelines. I was reading through some of the topics so I responded individually to a few posts here with responses about JTAN.

If this is not allowed, I will remove the posts.

Vincent,

Not a problem. I'm very doubtful whether you have breached any guidelines anyway, but I thought it might be best if we get it clarified from Admin once and for all.

Cheers!

Okay. I didn't mean to break any rules here ... I'd be more than happy to remove my posts if it is against the rules, Adam.

You know BC you may have a point. But is junk mail delivered to ur mailbox just cuz u ask it to stop. No. You got to sort through the good and bad stuff here and dont respond to somethings. Dont take this message the wrong way. But the forum i think gets more traffic than other parts of it. I dont care to look for host here if i did i would go to advirisment section but lets not see this forum go helter skelter.
I kinda am curoius if matt will email u back! I totaly support u BC!!

Vincent,

Don't worry about deleting your posts for now, at least until we get confirmation from Matt.

TCG,

An alternative workaround (if Matt decided that the offers had to go to the Offers/Ads forum) would be to simply have the hosting company (e.g. Vincent) point to the offer in the other forum with a link. However, to be very honest, I think that's going a little too extreme, so I'm leaving this open as it is.

And no, I usually don't take msgs the wrong way, because there's never anything achieved by it (unless I happen to be sick of course, as evidenced by my restrained outburst at Burst a few topics back :D)

That message is not allowed, simply because there a dozens of hosting companies crawling this board and if they all posted responses like that it would turn into an advert thread, this forum is not a place for grabbing customers for nought. Having said that it is hard to draw the line as to what is acceptable, since the thread is asking for responses and person has choosen to hide his e-mail address, I'd be breaking privacy laws if I undone that. In the situation where no e-mail has been left, the person is clearly looking for responses from web hosting and your company can satisfy their requirements companies then you may post your web address or e-mail address, but nothing else.

Thanks Admin. That's what I thought might have been the case.
