Just like to know what dedicated server providers are in California, and which ones have good steady bandwidth with nice, not necessary 'economical', servers.
Thanks.
Thanks.

They use Cogent - do I really need to say more? :^( They also host IRC servers on that Cogent line. This is a very bad thing. DD-SNC 03-21-2003, 01:29 PM Try staminus.. www.staminus.net. ck 03-21-2003, 03:22 PM We've been with HE.net for some time now and are very pleased with the superb facilities + network. Certainly worth your $. Cheers HYB-Bryan 03-21-2003, 03:39 PM Originally posted by zettai.net servepath.com and i have good things to say about them. Level3 bandwidth among others I have a server at Servepath as well... the support is great and the only downtime we have experienced was due to (a) a misconfiguration on our part or (b) too much traffic on the wimpy server we ordered. In both cases Servepath was quick to provide reboot service... sjs 03-22-2003, 11:00 AM Originally posted by ck We've been with HE.net for some time now and are very pleased with the superb facilities + network. PS JonS 03-23-2003, 12:35 PM Hmmm.... from all of my tracing, etc. I've only seen MFN/Williams traces, i've never seen any other providers in any of my traces from various locations. While they claim they have 300+, i'm not so sure about that. -- Jonathan ffa 03-23-2003, 03:31 PM I am actually looking at he.net they seem to have a very fast location from my computer. Could be that their facility is only an hour and half away drive for me :) alapo 03-23-2003, 03:33 PM Originally posted by PS JonS Hmmm.... from all of my tracing, etc. I've only seen MFN/Williams traces, i've never seen any other providers in any of my traces from various locations. Cheers I just got a quote from HE and they told me that it to colo with 1mbit, it would cost $500. Worth the money? No way. BiGWill 03-27-2003, 08:52 PM get a quote from a reseller... they can give you much better prices... ntwaddel 03-27-2003, 08:53 PM ttlhost (http://www.ttlhost.com) JP. 03-27-2003, 11:53 PM Originally posted by RSX I just got a quote from HE and they told me that it to colo with 1mbit, it would cost $500. Check out http://www.fastcolocation.com/ (run by the WHT user AlaskanWolf I think) or http://www.fastservers.net/ --- both located in HE's datacenter with MUCH cheaper prices. kic 03-28-2003, 12:25 AM Calpop.net looks pretty good too for a california colo/dedicated. 500GB bw included, And for support you get the cell phone numbers of all of their network engineers which are on call 24/7. I havent tried their service yet, but planning on putting a box there in the next week or two. Just the ability to call their NOC techs whenever i want on their cells is a very appealing prospect.. *dials* "Hi! just wanted to see if anyone answered, i'll let you go now, thanks!" :D heh -Robert Dragoon 03-28-2003, 06:22 AM Originally posted by kic Calpop.net looks pretty good too for a california colo/dedicated. 500GB bw included I recommend caution with Calpop. I have past experience with this company. They tend to lie a lot and there is a distinct absence of "clue" at this company. The cheap bandwidth specials that they advertise are for Cogent bandwidth not Savvis (Savvis being the network Calpop tries to pass off as its own). Cogent is bad enough on its own. It's worse in Los Angeles - where Calpop is located. Cogent has heavily oversold its "non-oversubscribed" network in L.A. Their peering in L.A. is practically non-existant which means your traffic is going to have to do a hell of a lot of traveling. Buyer Beware. userfriendly 03-28-2003, 10:39 PM Originally posted by Dragoon I recommend caution with Calpop. I have past experience with this company. The are located in the same building as me. When they had Savvis (they don't anymore), I was interested in leasing a line to them. After testing the line for a few weeks, I decided against using them. The 200kbps of network chatter, and 250,000 security alerts every HOUR was enough to make me not want to pay for their "premium" bandwidth. They have a lot of things to fix.. and they are aware of their problems, and will hopefully fix the problems. They lack technical people.. and unfortunately a company that isn't made of money can't afford to hire good techs. You really need one of the business partners to be a geek.. at least one geek. I am amazed they made it this far. |
