Hi there,

I stumbled across a web page that claimed that gamingcity.com had been sold for $500,000. If this is true then I am pretty much gutted.
Basically I registered the domain name gamingcity.co.uk back in early 1999 at which time gamingcity.com was available. But i chose to go with gamingcity.co.uk, because I didn't think i would need ".com".
Ok apart from the fact I may have missed out on a large amount of money, do you guys think gamingcity.co.uk would be worth much money if it was put up for sale?

I'm currently having the domain retagged and I have actually started working on a games site for it. What do you guys think, use it or put it up for sale?

Regards

If someone actually spend $500,000 on gamingcity.com, they are wasting their investment. It being pointed at a vstore...

Thats a heck of a lot of money to point at a vstore !!!

I think you have to take what these guys say with a grain of salt...

They also claim...

SOME DOMAINS ARE WORTH A FORTUNE, EVEN WITHOUT SELLING THEM! WE PURCHASED EGAMINGSYSTEMS.COM FOR US$10 IN 2000 AND SINCE THEN COULD HAVE QUITE EASILY SOLD IT FOR US$100,000 - 10 TIMES OVER! SO, WHY DIDN'T WE? WELL, IT GENERATES 100,000 HITS MONTHLY AND EARNS US MORE THAN US$100,000 PER YEAR - IT'S CALLED DOMAIN WORTH!

Too bad the site is dead and their loosing that $100,000/year, lol...

Oh yeah since when has every hit to your site earned you $1, I know that every hit to my sites don't earn me a $1, I sure wish they did though.

If I were you, I would develop the site it will be worth more to you in the end, although it never hurts to ask if they folks at gamingcity.com want it. If they really did spend $500,000 on it I bet you can get some dough from them...

They claim 100,000 hits a month and $100,000 a year. That doesnt work out $1 per hit. Its more like 8 cents a hit which is realistic.

ok apart from establishing that the claim that gamingcity.com was more than likely "not" sold for $500,000.

how much do you reckon gamingcity.co.uk would be worth, $5 :)

Thing is I am working on a games site, but there are so many of them on the net nowadays, me and my team don't think it would be profitable. So it might be best just to see what we could get if we sold the domain.

What do you think?
