I see all these hosts popping up offering game servers (shared or whatever). Is there really a market for this?

There is a good market for game servers, however it is heavily saturated. As with anything else businesses with the best combination of price and quality will probably be successful.

you need to keep in mind that most of your clients are kids and you need to realize most aren't technology advanced in the server hosting world. for example, a client of ours did rcon exit in his counter-strike server and began blamming us for the crash even though that command kills the server. it's a little stressful at times, but for the most part it's ok. sales are a lot harder to come by with the game servers from places like WHT. you'd need to spend some money on like gaming directories for advertising and get sales. you also should look into an IRC channel on GamesNET like we've done to help offer support and get popular.

LOL LogicBrendan,

Dont you know that hlds_run restarts on event of a crash?

It takes more than an rcon quit/exit to bring my servers down. You should read the 'readme' file :)

Thanks for the post. I've been thinking alot about it. There's a huge gaming market here (live right next to a base army guys obsessed with games). So locally I know I could do it. Just wondering if it's really all that profitable.

Anyone who can offer gamedaemons.net performance/speed/latency and somenonamehost.com's prices will succeed in game server hosting.
