View Full Version : Customer not paying?
Nadav 03-18-2003, 02:09 PM What do you do when this happens? I had a customer sign up about a week ago, around 5 minutes after his order came in I wrote him an email saying I'll make sure the account is set up as soon as his payment is received. I wait a couple of days and nothing, so I write another email giving him the link to our paypal subscription and asking if there are any problems.
It's been a while and I haven't heard one word from him... I'm sure this happens a lot, what should I do?
Aussie Bob 03-18-2003, 02:21 PM If he hasn't paid, he can't dance.
thedavid 03-18-2003, 02:25 PM ... and if he can't dance, he's been watching too much "Footloose".
Anyway, I would just let it be until he contacts you. Our problems are only with recurring customers because of the way our billing is setup, so we get to do the suspended accounts thingy...

Santiago 03-18-2003, 03:15 PM If you're a small company and looking for clients, it might be a good idea to create his account already and give him access to his Control Panel. This would seem like an open hearted guesture, and might make him complete the payment. :)
I'd say 1:10 accounts is like that for me. I'm not using any standard integrated with 2Checkout stuff like other people, I simply have customers sign up a form, it stores the variables and passes them along to 2Checkout. Once I receive payment I set up the account. I think some people think it's all automated and sign up and then test out their login and pass through FTP. Every time I email the clients that sign up and don't pay, I never get a response, which makes me think it's just people looking for freebies. Maybe if they try it at 100 places, someone will set up their account and forget they didn't pay. Not me :)
okihost 03-18-2003, 04:00 PM What we usually do is email the person 6-12 hours after the order if we have nt received payment and just tell them you wanted to make sure everything was ok and if they have any trouble to let you know and something the effect of "Your order will be held on file for 72 hours, if your payment is not received by that time you will need to sign up again."
eddy2099 03-18-2003, 04:35 PM If he hasn't paid then you are not obligated to provide him with the account since the transaction is not completed.
THW-Dave 03-18-2003, 06:07 PM maybe a fraud??
i have had people sign up, use CC # and whatever, but when i try to contact them, they dont exists, nor does the road they say the live on..
weird eh? :)
imago-allan 03-18-2003, 07:20 PM Greetings!
Non-paying clients? We all have them. Just do a follow-up. Then, the last thing we usually do is to send an email called a Notice of Shutdown. We tell them that due to non-payment their account will be shutdown in 72 hours. All files will be erased and no backup will be performed. In case they change their mind, we give them the payment link.
I believe we just have to be frank about our clients and tell them that we mean business.
In life, there are times that you will have to say no even though it hurts for some.
Take care everyone!

memyselfandi 03-18-2003, 08:06 PM This is real simple.
Get a real Gateway so people can plug their card number in and run a transaction without having to signup for some crazy thing like paypal. That's for starters!
Also if you have emailed the guy and he's not responding get a hint, he dosen't want the service.
:o
ANMMark 03-18-2003, 08:29 PM I agree. Do a follow up.
A good practice would also to accept payment at the time of order, rather than allowing them to order, then charge them.
Senad 03-18-2003, 08:56 PM If he doesn't wish to acknowledge you, then just don't bother anymore. I have a theory which I have not yet enforced since I have not gotten anybody to cancel my services yet..give a customer a week and a half to reply before you start closing shop on them.
Why even give them an account until they've paid in the first place?
Senad 03-18-2003, 10:20 PM Oh of course not, if they don't pay then I'll just be lazy and not even make their account until billing has e-mailed me :).
Nadav 03-19-2003, 08:31 AM Oh, of course... I wouldn't give an account before getting the money, I still have nightmares about the one time I _did_ do that :)
