Just curious, what kind of signups per day did you guys (web hosts) get in the first couple of months of your service launch?

I'm talking about virtual hosting accounts only.

I'd like to meet the person that got 30+ signups a day their first few months.

Well.. is difficult to say that.
We have 4 sign up today, 2 yesterday, and 0 the monday, 1 sunday, 0 saturday.
We have only 3 weeks in bussines.. and the first week whe have only 1 sign up.
Ohh today is our 3erd week :)

Define "sign ups". You can have a dozen sign ups in one day.

But how many are good orders?
How many have CC's that don't reject?
How many entered valued order or owner info?
How many don't cancel a few days later?

I'm referring to good signups as opposed to frauds and cancellations.

Hey Jedito,
Care to give any tips on advertising strategies you used? Thanks ;)

Jedito

As I read here.. the best advertise is the world of mouth.
And that is the way that I get new sign up.. people refering me.
I providing real 24/7 support.
I work 18 hours daily and my partner too.
Anyway. because 1 day I have 4 sign up, doesn't mean that I have 4 everyday.
Yesterday I have 1, and today ZERO.

Yeah I know word of mouth is usually a good advertising tool, but what about those first few customers?

Jedito

I think we get almost one new signup a day, but it depends on the week. We flucuate from .2 to .7 new signups a day.

But if you think about it, 1 new signup a day is pretty good. In one month, you have 30 clients, 3 months, 90, 6 months, 180.

We've been in business for 1.5 years now and we are at about 55 clients hosting 65 domains and we have been making a profit in terms of paying off our server, for the past 4 months now. We hardly do any advertising, less then 50 bucks a month. But we've been really fortunate with a partnership we've made recently. We are hope to continue to make partnerships like this, they really work out, instead of just paying for banner ads.

Hi Intrahost,

If you do about 0.5 customers per day, and you are 1.5 years in bussiness, you should have about 273 customers not 55, perhaps you mean that you do .2-.7 customers now?

Regards.

IntraHost

make that 56 customers, haha.

And yes, we do .2-.7 NOW. We haven't always done that number. We started out as less then that.

Well.. my bud luck start :bawling:
Instabill reject 3 transaction today.. and 1 yesterday!
I HATE THEM!!

Ericd

Did you asked instabill why they refused the transactions, Jedito? Everytime they refect one, i send them an email. So far, they rejected 5 transaction of me.

3 frauds (someone from Russia was having fun ordering with stolen credit card from US)

1 because the customer mispelled his credit card number

1 because they were no fund in the customer's account.

So, most of the time, for me at least, they don't reject a transaction for no reason.

Cheers!

Jedito

No.. I don't ask.. but I'm sure that the 3 rejected account have founds because is a custemer that go to start to resell and buy 3 small accounts, and later he buy a domain in netsol.
The transaction in netsol don't was rejected.
The costumer type 6 TIMES.. yes! 6 his cc number! he can't mispell 6 times his CC number (I think :))

Ericd

You are right, the customer can't mispell it 6 times. Maybe 1 or 2, but not 6 :)

How do you know when someone is rejected? I can't even get instabill to let me know when an order was placed, never mind rejected.

Log into the control panel, click on "Pending Orders" and then click on "Settled Transactions". On this page you have all your transactions, if the AVS is "N" then the transaction is refused.

I did that and I see that the address is the same, that he put before, in 1 transaction that was aproved.

Jedito, did you asked instabill about this? Maybe the credit card of your client is full now

Good luck with this.

Jedito
06-11-2001, 03:29 PM
Yes.. I ask, and they told me that theres a mismatch with the address.
And I see the previus transaction of the same customer and it match, same address in 2 transaction, 1 approved 1 rejected.
I don't say that to instabil.. because I'm really angry. and don't want to be rude with them.
I go to wait a bit until contact them again.

I can't believe these numbers with 30% of companies getting one customer per day...
30daysx12months=360 customers per year, don't you think it's too much?
I think that the numbers from Haakon are more accurated..

Regards.

Hi Freefer, my numbers isn`t very serious. It`s true but I haven`t been very active 5 of those months. But I don`t belive the voted numbers are correct either.
For starters; I believe 1-2 customers a week is a good estimate.

Justin S

Not at all. Think of all the websites out there that need hosts. Say there are 1000 web hosts, and each host gets 360 clients per year. That's only 360,000 sites per year...

Get-Hosted.com

Can't forget the ones that get 10 customers a day.

freefer
06-12-2001, 03:09 PM
Perhaps there are some people who votes in one per day and are getting less than one per day, but that is the nearest they get.
I think that 1 or 2 customers per week is a good number for starters and less than 1 year companies.

Not too sound like a poopy head but this poll should have included at least a "<1 per day" selection...

I have nothing to do with the hosting industry, but don't forget that on the other side of the coin is the natural retrition of customers (that is, customers who leave your service). What is this like - say as a percentage per annum (of customers that you lose).

I think signups per day depends on what you are offering.
If you just offer one pack to a small segment, you maybe
just have one or two per week. I don`t think the age of the
business have anything to do with it. You can offer great service
and support even if you have just started out. Just take good
care of your customers.

I disagree.
How do you get customers if nobody know about you?

Jedito

After 3 month I can say that we get 1 signup every 2 days average.

So you think this business is all about advertising and years as
a .com? Well, maybe you`r right. But if so I will quit today and
leave a lot of customers behind for you to keep. Customers
I have had since long before I even manage to register a
domain. But I belive my customers will back me up on this
matter. So I will keep them myself.

Jedito
08-14-2001, 08:20 AM
I'm not saying that, but I'm sure that companies that are been around for a long time, will be get more sign ups than new ones.
You know, world of mouth :)

Ok then, I agree with you. ***** and look a likes sure must bring in many customers by good word of mouth. Right?

Jedito
08-14-2001, 08:59 AM
I have to tell that I'm an ex ***** customer, I have a bad experince with them, they charge me 3 times in the same month, and after I complain about that, they close my account   . But I bring with them because a friend told me.
Even in WHT a read a guy who has a good experience with *****, what can I say? :)

Well, I think your tour with ***** speak for it self.
Now that you told me, and about +1200 more since you
and I mention the name *****, I`m sure I don`t want to do
business with them. Due to the effect of word of mouth. Right?
