Looks like I may be getting to that stage that I may need one as I seem to put alot of stress on general hosting. Therefore I need a Dedicated or Semi-Dedicated (no more than 10 people on the server).

Here's what I need.

500meg space, but more would be preferable
30gig traffic, but could live with 20gig
PHP
MySQL
all the other fun stuff that people usually need :)

So what types of prices am I looking at with that?

What's semi-dedicated? Is that like semi-pregnant?

It seems to me you're either pregnant or not, dedicated or not, and there is no in between for either. Did you mean perhaps virtual server? A virtual server account is still shared server hosting, although you get to administer many things as you would with a dedicated server.

Reading your message again, I see you are referring to shared server hosting with a more limited amount ot accounts on the server. That's a good idea. Ypu probably are aware that cpu usage goes hand in hand with transfer allowance, hence the desire for a limited amount of accounts to share with.

Your transfer requirements are on the high side for most hosts. You may want to take a look at tera byte (http://tera-byte.com) I believe they have a good reputation overall and they have very generous transfer allowances, and at pretty low rates to boot. I've sent a few people to them and know of at least one that signed up (http://seasky.org)

Before someone else posts it (would be soon), I'll just mention that if you want bids, feel free to post this request in our Advertising/Offers Forum and hosts will be able to post their offerings for you. If you want recommendations from other members, then this is the correct place.

Note, you can have both, that's ok too.

You guys misunderstood. Sea and Sky is not mine. It is the creation of J.D. Knight. He lives in Florida also, though much closer to Orlando. I've been aware of his site for years and find it a wonderful (and wonderfully done) educational resource on outer and inner space.

I've helped him a few times in the past on web related matters (and astronomy issues). When he was in desperate need of a new host recently (his old one was going out of business), and one with greater transfer allowances (his site is very popular and consumes a great deal of bandwidth that he pays for), I referred him to Tera Byte. He was fully transferred in 2 days and it has worked out well for him.

My site is about scuba diving, which J.D. covers in much more limited detail, mostly with links to some relevant sites.

Hi Fausty,

If you are looking to have a semi-dedicated server, which is most commonly referred
to as "managed server" or "managed services" for a dedicated server, you will be
receiving much more disk space and usually more data transfer than you are inquiring.

The industry average for the lowest priced dedicated server is around $100/month,
with variations which come to around the same amount. You will most likely also wind
up paying a little bit extra for the managed services, which is worth the money if you
have little understanding of the specifics of managing a server.
