to anyone on AOL when i do i get this error message.
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Please check your mail first.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
have any idea as to why? I can send mail to hotmail but not AOL when i try i can that error and yes im on AOL
Chicken 07-27-2000, 06:53 PM AOL may not let you do this (since you are dialing up from AOL), though I don't really know. So tired I should be zzzzzzzzz'ing.
Bogdan 07-27-2000, 07:45 PM AOL doesn't provide smtp servers. You may want to check out totalspeed.net, it's only $11.95 for regular dial up service.
Chicken 07-27-2000, 09:07 PM No, but she's trying to send mail through her server's SMTP. I know that there are problems with Mindspring (just thought that maybe there are problems with AOL as well?).
Diana 07-27-2000, 10:49 PM yes im trying to send mail from the raq to AOL and it gives me that error but i just tired again to send mail from the raq to diana@aol.com the mail was sent but i never got it, i hate aol don't know why i keep them they really do suck lol
Chicken 07-27-2000, 11:22 PM I didn't want to be the one to say that, but...
you know, you can download the AOL IM client (still have all yer buddies), and go to aol.com if you really miss them once you get another ISP :)
JustinK 07-28-2000, 02:25 AM According to half the support staff I talked to in their little java-chat thing(is it just me or are all their services going through the browser now?) said they don't allow the use of outside smtp servers. I can't test it out myself because I use another ISP and connect to aol using the TCP/IP connection, but I've ended up talking to a lot of people about the problem. If you do decide to go with an ISP DO NOT use a free one. I have yet to find a free ISP that will allow you to use smtp servers other than their own.

Chicken 07-28-2000, 09:00 AM Actually, my Netzero account let me send through my server. I haven't used it lately (been 2 months) since DSL.
Actually, this error has nothing to do with your ISP, or blocking SMTP ports.
The message could not be sent because one of the recipients was rejected by the server. Please check your mail first.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 550, Error Number: 0x800CCC79
Your server is using IP authentication for sending mail, a way of preventing unauthorized use of the mail server. In order to authenticate yourself to be able to send mail from your SMTP server, you have to check your mail first so that the server "learns" your IP address. Once you check your mail, the server writes your IP address to a temporary file, which is stored for an hour so you can send mail from that IP.
When using AOL, your dynamic IP is changed multiple times, while you're on line.
Meaning.. Even though you've checked your mail for authentication purposes, your IP address may change preventing you from sending mail, because the server doesn't "know" the new IP.
There are two ways to solve this..
<OL TYPE=1>
<LI>Check your mail every time before you send it.
<LI>Leave AOL, and find an ISP that will give you a dedicated IP address.
</OL>
However, you are still able to send mail to local domain names, which reside on your server, because they are "local" e-mail addresses, and the server does not use IP authentication for local e-mail.
Best of luck..

Chicken 07-28-2000, 08:15 PM OH MY GOODNESS! I can't believe I missed that lol! I sent her the pop auth pkg too, heh, heh. Sorry Diana! I completely missed that. Yep, just check your account quick and then it will send.
Thankx Mike for pointing that out.
Diana 07-28-2000, 11:32 PM wow thanks Mike i didn't know it did that, i was having all mail that was sent to admin@diana.com fwd to diana@aol.com wich never made it but i just checked my mail then sent an e-mail to diana@aol.com and i got it :) what i dont get is that i've had the server a month and it just started doing this and it was fwd my mail to AOL untill now.
Only question i have is since the raq keeps the IP used to check the mail wouldnt that list be large since im on AOL my ip changes 200 times a day that would be a big list over a month but i guess it deletes it self every hour or something?
Chicken 07-29-2000, 12:03 AM I'll mention that the relay window after a POP authentication is 15 minutes. You can change this (longer/shorter) if you want to (see the text file that I sent you along with the script).
This might not be exactly what you were talking about, but I thought I would let you know. What this means is, that after 15 minutes, you will have to check your pop again before you try to send mail from that account.
If you only forward your mail, and never check the pop account, then the pop auth script I sent you won't be of much help I believe.
Yes, Diana. The sever removes IP addresses that haven't been used within an hour or two.. I wouldn't worry about the list growing.. Even if the list is fairly large, it's hardly consuming disk space and constantly updated.
Diana 07-29-2000, 12:43 AM thanks for the help guys :)
