I need 5 1U servers for my dedicated hosting clients. Should I build my own 1U servers or buy the ready-made $399 1U servers from colomachine.com?
I can put together a 1U server for about the same price as the one offered by colomachine. Is it worth the efforts to do it myself? Any suggestions?

If you are looking for high-end servers, you should build them yourself. For something like a $399 server, it is better buying them off-the-self. You save both time and hassles.

The $399 box looks like a great deal but that whole shipping thing blows. If I use http://interpromicro.com, they'll ship directly to the datacenter, as opposed to shipping it to me, which really drives up the cost of the box.
A great deal though.

It's okay for me. I need to load the hosting software myself anyway. Asking the NOC guys to do the work, they charged me $75 - $125 per machine (Ouch). Sometimes, they can't even do it right. Anyway, re-shipping the box cost me about $35. It is still a good deal.

Yep, not such a great deal if you're Canadian though, like myself. :)

Do you think I should build the units myself?
