Howdy,

I wonder if there is a FAQ for this group?

In the quest for knowledge I have been reading the FAQ's on many hosting sites which is often mixed with the sites sales pitch.

But with recent questions such as "difference between static IP and shared" - maybe this should be in a general FAQ for new Hosts and Resellers...?

Use search function to find what you need information on.

The search function is the most important one you'll use on this forum.

Otherwise if you need a slightly more 'basic' FAQ on hosting check out HostHelp (http://www.hosthelp.com) by Deb Gillespie (CEO of FutureQuest (http://www.futurequest.net)). Extremely clear explanations, friendly, very good as a starting point.

That all said and done, I do imagine it would be a good idea to write a FAQ up eventually when I get the time....

Maybe you could have a links page for "newbies" that moderators can add links to that they feel might reduce some of the repetition on the forums?

just a thought.

actually, that is a very good idea! It could save mods and other people from answer questions over and over again. (Sorry to all the ppl I made do that.....)

Good idea, Dogma. I've answered a number of questions for people that were pretty basic stuff.

Good idea, Dogma. I've answered a number of questions for people that were pretty basic stuff. What generally happens, though, in forums like this and in newsgroups, is that the constant influx of new people take on the task of answering the basic questions.

As members gain more experience they get tired of answering the easy questions they've answered dozens of times, and they've developed the knowledge to answer more advanced questions anyway. Newer users ease into the process by answering the basic questions, the ones they can answer accurately and with confidence.

So, Dogma, you didn't make anyone answer your basic questions, you let them do so! The constant flow of those basic questions are part of what builds a stronger forum.
