I am looking into the idea of moving onto my own dedicated server from my numerous reseller accounts... but when talking to theplanet a week or so ago, they confused me a little...

I was asking what was better, having my own nameservers on 2 of the ip addresses which i will have, or using their nameservers.

They told me that i should use their nameservers because there is a lot of work in maintaining ns1 & ns2 for my domain if i go ahead with making nameservers on my own domain

How much maintenance would i have to do?!

No real maintinence unless you host TONS of sites on the server in which case it gets a bit annoying. But once you get it set up, you should be all set....

If you use CPanel it will handle much of the work involved in maintaining nameservers, BUT you should still have some understanding of how to maintain a nameserver since no control panel is 100% foolproof. You will need to be able to troubleshoot any issues that may come up.

You will also need some knowledge of Linux to able to maintain your own dedicated server even if it has a control panel.

Hello, i am also interested to know what kind of maintenance is needed - i have been running a dedicated server for just under a year now and never had a problem with my nameservers!

Anyone..?
