I'm not trying to advertise myself here... I am only asking how people find their hosts. If this is not allowed just let me know.

How does a new host advertise themselves and get comments on their site and plans? Where do people who are looking for hosting go?

I would recommened starting out locally, that is always the best market. Maybe try placing an advertisement in some of your local computer papers.

There is quite a few outlets.

- WHT
- HostSearch.com
- TopHosts.com

word of mouth is by far the best method of advertising. treat your customers like gold and they'll tell the whole world...

Sponsor a few people in exchange for a banner ad to your Hosting page, perhaps look for some moderately busy forums to work with...

I would say offer some small free accounts to start with but I have had bad luck with them in the past. Though you may have better luck this will get some activity on you server or reseller account as well as get your name out there if they like your service. They will recommend you to others and so on. But the cheapest way to get your name out there is to put links/ads in your sig on forums where it is allowed of course mentioning your company. Contirbute to forums as much as possible and maybe some one will notice you and sign up. Good luck!

Clean, simple, and valid. :)

If you have a big enough local market and you are not shy then that is the best place to start.

Directories and forums that you are an active member of is the next best thing.

Get as much free advertising as you can. Repeat business from your customers is great.
