.tv can't be discounted, that I know of.

I believe the whole point of the .tv domain was that the .tv company was in business to corner the market on domains with this extension, enabling them to sell domains at (what they thought would be) amazing profits.

They paid something like $50 million to license .tv domains from the little-known country of Tuvalia (?) -- and it's been a long way uphill to try to make that money back. It's unlikely that they'll release the licensing rights to any other registrars in the future, much less sell the domains at a discount.

It's Tuvalu, a South Pacific island nation. Otherwise, correct (I'm assuming the 50 million figure is accurate). I doubt they'll break even, much less make a profit. However, they are celebrating in Tuvalu! :D

.tv was licensed to Verisign and is now offered to all .com/.net/.org registrars through the Verisign registry along with .cc and .nu

I believe .tv is funded and backed by the evil empire of Network Solutions. bigmattyh, I have read past post from you talking about PR/marketing. These guys are doing well at this. Honestly, why would most people even want a .tv name? Hype.

.tv has opened its doors a little bit. They have a partner program with a pretty good API for host wanting to implement it. Also, OpenSRS sells these domain names at a discount to resellers ($35.00 yr). Retail is $50.00/yr. So soon I would expect to see $40.00 - $45.00/yr range. Discount - Yes. Still worth it?:confused:

Dotster.com (http://www.dotster.com) registers both .cc and .tv domain names. I don't know if they're the cheapest though (but very reliable and a great "bulk manage" control panel).

Goldady offers .cc for $34.95.

I believe the price you pay for a .TV name is raised every year with $5
