whenI switched a dns on one of my virtuals they deleted the whole account !!!!!
frigin idiots !!!!
steve93138 06-05-2001, 04:01 PM You are not the only one with strange problems involving Rackshack. They emailed me recently claiming that they could not process my credit card for my RaQ4i server and that I needed to supply a new card number.
I explained to them that my credit card is valid and that I have more than enough available credit. They could not give me a reason why this happened.
What's more, their site and all of thier servers have gone down twice in the past 9 days...
They need to get thier act together or I'll probably go elsewhere even if it costs more.
jaime 06-06-2001, 02:25 AM My Raq at 4webpace has never gone down (for 5 months). I just had a little crash due to excessive CPU overload and very heavy transfer.
If you don't crash the server yourself it NEVER goes down.

DOHHH
glad to hear for ya ;)
wish mine would work like that
heehehehehe
let others who read this take warning and go somewhere else than rackshack
Honu, obviously you have a bone to pick with RackShack. Which is okay, go ahead and blast away.
As for me on the other hand, I've had my raq4i there for about a month and we are in the process of getting a second one. The few problems I have had with SSL and what not (due mostly to my own ignorance) have been handled at RackShack support with diligence and expertise. It's true that you have to get the right people on the phone to get the right help,,, but that's pretty much anywhere. Once I had to ask for a support persons sup. and things were just fine after that. Well not only that, but the guy sat there, got into my admin control panel and straightend out my DNS tangle on the spot. On another occasion a RackShack guy edited my .httpd config file for me so it would work better with my new Thawte cert. I will say that their on-site support docs could be much better and I understand they are working on it.
PLUS, I have been working on sites at my Raq4i, night and day since I got it and NEVER has it gone down,, well once, when I did something stupid in the httpd config file and had to telnet in, correct the mistake and reboot the server. And our customer's sites on the Cobalt server are way the hell faster than the the last server they were on, a shared Alabanza deal.
Yeah sure, every company had a resident flunky who can goof up pretty bad, but for you to call the entire organization a bunch of idots because of that,,,,, well I guess in time were all a bunch of idots. As the saying goes, "In the long run, we're all dead." So where do you get the kind of time to walk around with a verbal blow-torch? Life's too short mon. Move on or ask for the Sup at RackShack to set everything right. They will, but like anywhere else, from time to time you need to go over a few heads to get to where you want to be.
I recommend you take your lemmons make lemmonaid dude. Sounds like you would have about 900 gallons of the stuff. Sheesh!

Aloha
glad you are having good luck I hope all on rackshack the best of luck and I am very sincere about that
I do know bad luck can fall on a few ;)
well yes kind of a bone to pick but some things to look at:
qwkmon report since I paid for a RaQ:
Log begins May 29 07:45
Host returned error May 30 18:19
Host resumed status normal May 30 21:26
Host returned error Jun 5 17:08
next day I am down over 3 hours why something on there end ??
then I change a dns for one of my accounts on there online form switch a static ip to be a named host as I was not going to use a cert after all.
they saw the change and decided to pull my account and RaQ completely off ?
When I asked why my raq was down
they asked what I ddi to it before it went down ??
I did nothting i was sleeping ??
Oh ok I will reboot it
then
they told me the account was inactive ???
then I icq in at 9:30 pm my time adn ask if someone can check the dns entries for 3 of my domains on my account
me: because the suport area is down
RS: it is down ??
RS: is this just a night thing
RS: only at night or what ?
RS: can I have your rs #
RS: are you trying to get in to our members area at night?
me: at this time I am tryin to get in it is only 9:45pm
so we establish that he did not know it was down every night ??
I ask to check on my dns entries for 3 names
RS: yes, can i have the rs login please?
me: I give him my number and list the 3 domains
RS:no one up here right now that can check your dns entries
me:when will they be available
RS:tommorow morning
me:thought you guys had 24/7 support
RS: we do, but dnsing can only be done by the morning ppl
me:that is not 24/7 support then ???
RS: yes it is, but there are restrictions, sorry for the inconvience
me: yeah not your fault ;)=
thanks
RS: welcome
=================
now I ask you is this 24/7 support
I would have to say no
basically the people at night can answer ICQ and that is it
the only thing rackshack has on its end is the dns servers and the network ??
I am also saying this for those that search for rackshack on this forum and want to know what happened to me
I signed up expecting bad support
but I did not sign up to go down twice in one week for over 3 hours each time and then have em disconnect my account without saying anything then realizing it is becasue I switched a dns using there form ????
so I do say to all those looking at rackshack
read this and read the other complaints
yes expect bad and what little service they can support do not expect it to be 24/7 expect it to be more like 16/7
I would strongly suggest not using them they created every problem I have had I did not make the network go down I did not disconnect my own account ?
I did not remove all dns entries on my account !!!

best of luck to all ;)
Dealing with tech support at Rackshack is hit or miss. I know a number of people who have had their problems, and I have had a couple of basic questions about their security, e.g. firewalls, monitoring, etc., that were poorly answered. However, last week, we had a major problem with one of our servers and needed a manual reboot. They had this done within 10 minutes of the phone call -- I was pretty pleased as the shutdown was due to a mistake I made. Fortunately, the clients I have currently at Rackshack are low-volume sites with no ecommerce. I want to get a few more months in before I switch a couple of my other clients. The prices are great -- so I guest you get what you pay for.
Yup, your right. This is really, really sad. Tears are running down my cheeks, booo, hoooo, hooo, whaaaaaaaaa!!!!!
:bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling: :bawling:
Aloha,
well it has not gotten any better my dns is still not working and the tickets are in there since yesterdya now
when I go to assign a static IP I can no get to the site via the IP
for those of you wondering
I am not mad at anybody at rackshack just mad at the handling of this issue
I always say it is not the persons fault at the other end they are usually just doing the job adn if they were hired and not ready for the job then it is company policy that should make the techs be a higher scale
just wanted to clarify that with people so you do not think when I say they are idiots I mean the comapny in a whole not individual people in that comapny (the only idiots personally would be the people that know this is happening and letting it go through)
best fo luck to all
Mahalos for letting me vent :)
WHT is a great forum with a lot of knowledge

Are you really sure about that Huck? As hosting prices and quality seems to fly like unrelated leafs in front of a lawn blower, that old dictum in this regard is becoming more and more mummified as we speak.
If you really do get what you pay for, then I guess we should all go out and buy a dedicated server at Verio (the most expensive I can think of for the moment).
The last host I had my sites with (before we BECAME the host we had been looking for), was offering somewhat pricey accounts from their Alabanza leased server. They charged a web client of mine (we also design web sites), $425 one month for their $24 per month account, plus bandwidth charges. Plus this particular host was up and down like a yo-yo for months before we fled in sheer economic terror. Do you suppose my web customer got what they paid for? Let's see,,, hmmmm $425 for a months worth of no e-commerce hosting of a 14MB web site,,,, hmmmmm, and charged for 14GB of bandwidth when in fact they used 9,,,,, hmmmm.
Or hey, how about California's PG&E!!! Let's see, the same juice as last year, but now six times more expensive than last year and complete with suprise blackouts !!!! Hey, whad-a-deal!!!!!!!!
(Good thing our servers are in Texas.)
