View Full Version : anybody having Burst Issues
one of my servers has been down for over 2 hours ... they have given me about 5 excuses for the mess, but the latest is that:
'we are having an APC issue with an entire rack & are switching in a new one. this should take about another 20-30 minutes'
this was a phone conversation i had about an hour ago. i called them back and the lady that answers sends me to voice mail ....
anyone having similar issues ?
thedavid 03-13-2003, 04:56 PM Hello,
Currently we're not having any issues like you mentioned - must be localized to where your server is actually located in the datacenter.
-David
well ... it is going on 3 hours and they will not respond to my tickets, calls, or IM's.
anyone else ?
VNPIXEL 03-13-2003, 05:05 PM get on AIM and contact Mike at: csmburstnet
thedavid 03-13-2003, 05:08 PM The latency of the past few days has returned again as of now though :(
-David
bglkk 03-13-2003, 05:08 PM Did you try the new emergency ticket system? Kinda curious to see if it's any improvement...
No issues here for a couple of days, but my server was down for 5 hrs. on Monday. Never heard an explanation--supposedly they are "monitoring" to see that problem doesn't recur.
mainarea 03-13-2003, 05:08 PM There is a network issue right now:
1 ge-5-0-border.scr1.hostnoc.net (64.191.0.1) 232.341 ms 243.642 ms 247.778 ms
I have actually been talking to Mike, he said they're looking into it, but ATM, Dan hasn't found anything.
- Matt
VNPIXEL 03-13-2003, 05:18 PM see if BurstJHwang online, he is good.

i used the emergency@burst.net and it made no difference what so ever. i suppose that is just the way it is .... the server is back online now, but instead of an apology or a reason or any type of information, i just got:
'server up and running operational.
issue resolved. '
while i am happy it is back up, it would be nice for them to at least acknowledge that they cause some sort of inconvenience.
huh ...
mainarea 03-13-2003, 05:25 PM see if BurstJHwang online, he is good.
John is great for server issues, but he's a remote tech, so he can't do much about network problems (and sometimes is not even informed about them). Mike has just sent my ticket to Dan, let's hope this gets resolved quickly.
- Matt
bglkk 03-13-2003, 05:29 PM Just noticed this over at the Burst forums. Some improvement, even if tickets are still slow.

Malfunctioning power breaker affecting service to one rack. Problem should be resolved momentarily.

mainarea 03-13-2003, 05:32 PM bglkk - That was only one rack though, now the entire NOC is having a problem.
- Matt
jd603 03-13-2003, 05:35 PM actually i didn't read the last post in the thread, a malfunctioning power breaker can happen rarely (hopefully it wasn't because they over-loaded it though).
burst is probably a good host, they seem to be from what I see anyway.
so sorry for the laughy face , it's just so funny i had to use it though.
Caffling 03-13-2003, 05:36 PM Yup, I am.
Ping is 230 above what it normally is.
bglkk 03-13-2003, 05:45 PM Yeah, slow. But it sure beats an unpingable server and waiting for a ticket reply that never comes...
I've been complaining for so long, thought I'd try to cut them some slack for once. ;)
phactor 03-13-2003, 06:03 PM my server is down again..
i cant contact them via AIM..
oh god
Haddy 03-13-2003, 06:06 PM Day 3..Oh joy...Thankfully not many clients have noticed...Its getting old real quick though...
mainarea 03-13-2003, 06:06 PM phactor - Call them for reboots. Also, Mike (csmburstnet) is on right now, you can ask him to reboot. Make sure it's not just the network issue.
I'm usually supporting Burst, but three straight days of network issues, all unrelated? I don't want to say that it's unacceptable, but it is - furthermore, it's not covered under their SLA.
- Matt
phactor 03-13-2003, 06:09 PM csmburstnet dont answer.. as allways..
i'm getting sick of this

mainarea 03-13-2003, 06:11 PM phactor - AIM was not meant for support or reboots, just an extra way to communicate. Did you put a ticket through with emergency priority at the new helpdesk?
- Matt

agree..
When they have a problem everyone stop answer.. they just ignore us.
also, they can add more info to their forum

Matt :
I know that aim is not to request reboots. I jut think they SHOULD answer customers instead of ignoring them. If their online, and i think my server is having those power failures, why they dont answer?
this is not normal
mainarea 03-13-2003, 06:18 PM I jut think they SHOULD answer customers instead of ignoring them.
Most likely Mike is away from his desk - he said goodbye to me about 15 minutes ago, but never put his away message on. He hasn't answered me since - things are very busy at Burst/Nocster. I think they should put on away messages...
- Matt
phactor 03-13-2003, 06:24 PM i sent a reboot ticket for 6 minutes..
lets see how many time it takes until i got an answer. I agree with you. they should turn away ON when they leave their desks.
This last days has been horrible

phactor 03-13-2003, 06:31 PM i have to laugh..

u think is normal? i dont
they are showing a total desrespect for the customers...
phactor 03-13-2003, 06:37 PM cool, burstnet also leaves
shame on this service...
mainarea 03-13-2003, 06:56 PM phactor - Cut their AIM service some slack, they're busy with a lot of things right now. Do you still need a reboot? I can call them and get one for you, just PM me with your servername and IP (if I remember correctly, you're not located in the US, so it's not a free call), and I'll call them once I get it (if I'm not eating dinner).

is very very appreciated :)

Mine as well. These network problems are really getting old. :/
VapoRub 03-13-2003, 07:19 PM Sigh same here

Synwave 03-13-2003, 07:29 PM one of ours is down too!

This is really odd. The routing keeps changing.
mainarea 03-13-2003, 07:32 PM Nobody is answering at tech support, & I can't get through to individual extensions of the people who are there right now. Not a fun day... (haven't I said that the last two days as well? it's getting old....)

phactor 03-13-2003, 07:37 PM Thanks a lot matt. Anyway, they dont answer to my ticket. I was said that was a power failure, so i think it was solved? my server is very slow, but that is because of the network issues.
Matt dont forget about my pm regarding the server :)
thanks a lot!

It would be great if we could get some sort of update on the cause of *this* (there have been multiple today) outage.
ThePrimeHost 03-13-2003, 07:40 PM Freakin great! Again Burst? I just bought another server from you last week. It's time to enhance your network!

More like their network admins...Dan just doesn't seem to be able to hack it.
Matt2001 03-13-2003, 07:44 PM I think people need to chill out a bit. There support has gotten a ton better in the last few days, i'm sure their network is getting a lot of attention also. I can guarantee that if you're having network issues (like myself) that its being handled. They'll let us know what happened when they get done running around like crazy trying to fix it. I'd rather have them fix it first them mess around with telling us what the deal is.
mainarea 03-13-2003, 07:44 PM I was told at around 6:00 that they didn't have an ETA, and didn't know what the problem was. Time to call back, it's been 45 minutes....

I've been in contact with Dan during and after each network issue, but haven't been able to reach him during this one. Support is getting better, but the network has had a really bad time over the last few days, & in all likelyhood, none of which will be covered under the SLA. Their SLA means nothing - with the way it is worded, they might as well offer 100% uptime...

Rochen 03-13-2003, 07:53 PM We have our main server there, which hosts our own website, forums and helpdesk. No clients are hosted there, although it's still extremely annoying the fact they wont reply to tickets, answer the phone, reply on AIM or ICQ and wont provide updates as to what's going on.

balabachi 03-13-2003, 07:56 PM BLAH!
Server goes down at 5:20PM EST -5:45 call in for reboot - lady on phone say ok.
6:20 - No reboot server still down - call back am told "your server is in reboot queue". thinks to self "reboot queue".
6:55 server is still down - They dont answer the phone, they have not answered my support tickets.
These people need to learn how to run a business.
mainarea 03-13-2003, 07:56 PM Okay - got some news... it's a major flood attack.

So what can you guarantee us then in regards to the 3 days of network issues? That tomorrow will make it 4?!
The fact that issues are arising one after another and very *little* explanation is given afterwords doesn't making me comfortable.
mainarea 03-13-2003, 07:57 PM For all we know, your server might be up right now, it's just that 90% of the network is down...

Anyhow, i'm gonna change the subject here, but is it just me or has anyone else noticed how vulnerable the internet has been in the last 6 weeks? I mean from viruses, to DOS, to cut wires, to outages, to floods, etc, it seems that we're finally seeing the effects here of the growth of the internet. Maybe its the talk of war, i don't know, or the release of Kevin Mitnick, but it just seems the net hasn't been as stable as it has in the past....but this could just be me =)
