I am using qwckmon to monitor them

UPDATE ON QWKMON
OK I am not trusint this software anymore to monitor might be a ok idea as a helper
but it was showing efreeserver down long after it was back up and running
alos showed maximumasp down when in fact they had not and were not down so kinda wondering what was up

although efreeserver did go down to move there site (not ther customers)

anyway thought I would ad this info

Before they were down, how are they? I remember learning about them about 2 months ago, but haven't heard much else...

I heard and from rdns lookups it looks like they are reselling for someone....

They are moving from lanset to exchangecolo. The new line provider is Level3 and not eli. This is the reasoning for their page to be down.

Hi Charles,

You're incorrect in your assumption that EFS is a reseller for another company. It's actually the other way around. We have other companies reselling our products and services for us. You might have come across some of these companies already.

We recommend that you call our new backbone provider (Level 3) directly for yourself to confirm that E.FreeServers is indeed one of their customer. As for our site being down, we are updating our primary & secondary namer servers IP from ELI to Level 3 today so might not be acccessible to everyone until tomorrow.

Have a great day!

Why not do it seperatly so you don't have down time? .. Ehh.. wouldn't that be a good idea?

Was Eli giving poor performance? I was on some ISP's a couple of years ago that used Eli for a backbone up here in the North state, and they were always great. All the ISP's moved onto other backbone's to "improve service" and everything went down hill from there! Is Eli not so great anymore, or did you move from them for other reasons?

glad you answered that I have been monitoring you and have had a few email conversations with someone there
the outage was almost 6 hours
can you please explain if your customers were down or did you mirror there machines out and then move them so they would not be down??

other question how much warning do you give your customers that you were going to be down ??

I am still thinking of using you but that really freaked me out as a potential customer to have a network down that long

can you go into more detail aobut your newe NOC or location lines etc how the new level 3 will help and your future plans....

A curious maybe customer ???

any other info you may ad would be great I am sure others here are very curious as well

looking forward to hearing from you

Hi Honu,

Only the efreeservers.com site was down during the DNS update as the name server was actually taken down and tranported from Sacramento to San Francisco. We were hoping to relocate our server over the weekend, but NSI Registry didn't update their database until early this morning.

None of our customers were affected because their servers are already connected to Level 3 at the new SF facility. We want to emphasize again that our network connections to Level 3 was never down during this transition. It's business as usual for both our free servers and co-location customers throughout the entire day.

Have a great evening!

Give Efreeservers.com a break.

They have a very legitmate reason for the downtime.

Since nobody else is speaking for ELI, I will...

We've used them for the last three years, and the quality of service has been great overall. They run a good network.

The latency on their network started creeping up a bit a while back, but ever since they laid all their new fiber, it's been quite good. They had about 30 minutes of downtime here in Boise about a week ago, but it was the first in over a year. Overall, their uptime has easily exceeded 99.99%.

If they have service in your area, check them out.

As Travis stated ELI is a good bandwidth provider. I know numerous people using them and are very happy with what their service and products. I have been on some of there servers and the ping times etc are great.

No, I don't colo with them, but I would like to.

I just want to make sure they have fast connection and 99.999% plus uptime.

I live 20 min away from their office, and hour away from the NOC.

Yes, in fact, you do have the rights to ask.
Just assume I'm barking. :D

Hello,

I haven't visited their office yet.

I want to wait until Efreeservers is stable before I start getting more serious about having them as my colo provider.

I signed up with them a couple weeks ago and took my server down from maxim.

I live in sac and the dood(sorry I can't even remember your name and im sure you'll know who I was) was so nice to actually wait for my dumb ass for a couple hours last week(i got lost twice) so he could take my colo server for me from sac to san fran as a favor so I didn't have to drive to san fran. He took it and I got an email a few hours later that it had all been setup and was online.

All my emails to them thus far have been answered really quick like a half a day each time.

I have no idea how things will turn out but Im giving them a shot cause me and my partner are just looking to try some stuff out and their billing system is the best ever. So network quality is something that will have to be proven.

And dumb me actually put my server online a little too quick in that I didn't time it with my guy so we could setup everything so I haven't been able to pound my machine yet

Hello,

Can I have the url of your website if it is up?

I want to see the time it takes to load.

Why did you leave Maxim anyway?
