Im currently in the process of moving my customers from my server to a new server.

Im using that cpanel3, but there must be more to it than just transfering the /home directory?

What other directories should I take to the new server?

For anyone that helps, thanking you.

Sonique

Anything else? :D

No, seriously, if all these files/directories are moved is everything supposed to work then? And other than moving and modifying IPs in some files, is there anything else that needs to be modified?

Thanks!

NOTE: Copying /etc/fstab is probably not the brightest idea unless the systems are exactly identical... and even then it's not really necessary.

Thanks Matt, I have looked at these files and this is what I think needs to be moved:

Files:

/etc/proftpd.conf (VirtualHosts)
/etc/group (Entries)
/etc/passwd (Entries)
/etc/shadow (Entries)
/etc/localdomains (Entries)
/etc/domainalias (Entries)
/etc/userdomains (Entries)
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf (Entries)

Directories:

/home
/var/lib/mysql
/etc/valiases
/etc/proftpd
/var/cpanel/users
/var/cpanel/Counters
/etc/vfilters
/var/spool/mail
/var/spool/cron
/usr/local/frontpage
/usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/mailman/lists

Tell me if I am correct

dont you have to change something as far as licensing goes? cpanel does check a license server doesnt it?

The new server's IP address will have to be in the license server. The license for the old server will not work on the new system.

Yeah, that's what I meant. So just make sure you let VDI or DarkOrb know the new IP of the server.

Slightly off-topic. If the files listed above are the ones I'll backup regularly I'll be in good shape then when I need a restore?

I just successfully completed a cpanel server move, with a server with 444 accounts on it. It was a Bit$$ being my first cpanel move. But now, I think in retrospect is was really easy. and shouldn't take nearly as long as it did before.

Yes - it can be a real pain in the neck if not executed with precision.

Glad to hear you got everything figured out!

Hi, i tryied moving the listed files and directories, but i found the following problems:

1) In WHM, the List accounts link shows 0 accounts, also, i tryied to move also the files accts and accts.db from /var/cpanel, but when i click the List accounts link, those files return to 0 value

2) FTP accounts does not works, no one, all returns a login denied error.

3) The other things appears to be working fine.

I will thank your help very much.
