View Full Version : Weinbar sucks! any good alternatives?
I've been with Weinbar since mid april and lately the server has been making access to my site forbidden at random. the customer service sucks. i email, use the help desk and message board and still haven't gotten a reply from about 5 days ago. does any know of any good alternatives. i need a site with a lot of space, mysql, php, cgi and supports real audio and real video streaming. anyone have any suggestions?
It is only your site, not the server. The server is just fine.
1st, please read www.weinbar.com/restrictions.html
When your site is up, the cpu load hits 20+
When your site is disabled, the cpu load is under 1 (where it should be).
You are in violation of our TOS and we cannot allow that to happen.
It is also only the 4th of the month and you are over your bandwidth limitiation, so there is something going on with your domain. Please note that at the rate you are going, your site will utilize over 200GB this month. That is way too much for a shared hosting account. I would suggest looking into a dedicated server.
my site is www.trickology.com you have me confused with someone else. i don't get anymore than 50,000 uniques a month so how could be transfering 200gigs?
according to my control panel i transfered 6 gigs last month now I'm doing 200? anyway i signed up for the WHT special which is a 50gig limit. so what are you talking about? i never got a warning. you just turn my **** off at the peak hours.
Well, the WHT special is 20GB, not 50GB and in the TOS which you agreed to when you sign up, it states that we have the right to suspend any accounts that are in violation of our TOS. Period.
We cannot have this server overloaded by one account. The other 79 accounts on it are not happy, and neiteher are we.
We do not have you confused with antother account. Why would the load be 20+ with your account active and when it is disabled it drops down to under 1?
Take a look at your bandwidth usage this month. As I said before, you have used about 15GB and it is only June 4.
This is the last post I am making about this on this board. Please use either email, our board at forums.weinbar.com or the help desk.
This is not the right place for technical support.
If you still think we suck, then fine, but if you were on the other end, and someone was aeating up the CPU as your site is doing, then you would want something done as well.
cbaker17 06-04-2001, 01:09 PM Weinbar, read through the forum rules, business avatars arent allowed.
Sounds like you do need a dedicated server if your using that many resources, some good sources forboth dedicated hosting and sharehosting are
wizardshosting.com
venturesonline.com
Charles:
Missed that one! Haven't posted here in a while and I didn't know the rules changed.
Thanks for pointing that out!
note only reason weinbar replied is because i brought this out in the public. never replied to my emails or on the help desk and only replied to posts on the message after he saw this post.
can someone please give me some better hosts to choose from?
jayglate 06-04-2001, 05:21 PM Do you want dedicated or shared? no shared host will host you with a site that brings the load to 20+. I trust and most other hosts will trust weinbar on that fact.
Planet Z 06-04-2001, 05:32 PM 200GB is a LOT of bandwidth for a shared hosting account. If you're really using this much, you'll probably find it cheaper & more efficient to get a dedicated box.

Uh, not true, but anyway, here are some good alternatives for you:
wizardshosting
pwebtech
ventures online
site5
aletiahosting
Hope you find what you are looking for. These hosts (and many others out there as well - I apologize if I missed you) will probably give you better service than we have.
Sydney 06-04-2001, 06:16 PM Opus,
Sorry about your site but I'm glad that the other Weinbar sites on the same server as yours (including mine) is back to normal loading and performance times.
Weinbar doesn't suck and I have been happy with their service for several months. I admit that I was somewhat worried when our sites started to load slowly but Michael assured us that they were monitoring the situation and even offered us to move to another one of their servers if we wished. I didn't move, stuck it out and true enough after 2 - 3 days the performance was back to its speedy self.
Granted I have no clue which site it was which bogged all of us down but am satisfied that the situation was remedied fairly quickly.
Your site is nice and I wish you all the best in finding another provider which will better suit your needs.
i'll be cool just don't like how my site was shut down without any warning regardless if its in the TOS or not. If my site was an issue it should've been addressed in a professional manner instead of just shutting it off without an explanaton.

AGREED!
This Opus doesn't seem to realize that he is not supposed to hog the resources of the server for his use only. There are other customers who are not happy with this. Thank goodness his site will be gone from Weinbar.
Opus, you really need to learn more about the technical aspects and restrictions of servers before you start ranting about poor service and calling them names. Once you do, you wil realize how deep your foot is in your mouth.
jayglate 06-04-2001, 07:27 PM Your site was causing server instability, and performance degradation. Shutting you off was the only option and ANY HOST will do that, to preserve server stability and operational status. Weinbar is a good host with a good rep. There is NO need to bring out this issue on the boards.
Would you have prefered he not turned your site off and possibliy lost 79 other customers because your sites was bringing the server to a crawl.
Think before you act out at someone publiclly. It just ins't right.
Granted he should have answered your emails and answered your phone calls. But none the less. He was right in what he did.
okay, i'll have everything resolved in like two days. thanks for the comments. i'm  now
Tim Greer 06-04-2001, 08:49 PM Just a note to add; Even ignoring the other sites suffering -- you'd probably not be happy with your own site responding to slow anyway -- and leaving it enabled hoping the system doesn't go down, wouldn't make anyone, even you, happy at that point. Also, there's usually not any time to warn someone about their site when it's taking up so much resources ... and you can't realistically wait for the client to get the information while the server is at that point. Moreover, all they could ask you to do, would be to disable the script(s)/program(s) in question that are causing the problem(s).
You can limit (depending on how the server is set up) how much resources an account can take for CGI, etc., but it gets a bit more entailed when you have to deal with limiting one user's MySQL and PHP resources too. And, again, even with the limits, your site would have errored saying that your account is at it's resource limit and not accessible anyway -- which would have saved the other users on that system from the load issues, but not your site anyway. Therefore, it was the best and only course of action... which I'm sure you understand now and probably agree. Good luck.
Farmer 06-04-2001, 10:08 PM <<EDIT>>
you need a dedicated server.20 load is to big 100% it caused some type of crashes.
