ServerDeals 03-11-2003, 03:48 PM I think there are several hosting companies on these forums interested. And you can bet if they are going to spend $90 signup they are going to market it. My suggestion is get rid of the monthly admin fee, there are a few other companies that do not charge this and plans are comparative. I understand the setup fee, but and admin fee that high is unacceptable.
StartAnISP 03-11-2003, 03:55 PM Thanks for the reply, the idea of the setup fee is to make sure that we are dealing with those that are serious about offering dialup. Once you put on 20 customers the admin fee is waived. Most of our ISP's blow way by the 20 customers their first month. So once you get 20 customers, the admin fee is not an issue. Those that don't think they can get 20 customers really should not waste their time or money launching an ISP.
Our prices are great and I am sure you understand that we need to deal with volume in order to offer good pricing.
Just the cold hard truth, I hope I have explained this well. Please let me know if you have any questions.
ServerDeals 03-11-2003, 04:09 PM I agree with the setup fee. But for people just starting out it may take the 60-90 days to take on 20 new clients. I have seen simular wholesale dialups that say for the first 90days no admin charges after that if a minimum is not reached then you pay X amount for admin due to not having a minimum. Just a suggestion. I think overall you would pickup more business. I am bashing you company you have a good plan Just a suggestion.
StartAnISP 03-11-2003, 04:35 PM Thanks for the suggestion, we will consider it.
Oh and thanks for looking!
Shannara 03-11-2003, 05:19 PM Whoo hooo! You have ..... 2????? numbers in alaska for only two cities? agh!, Oh well, I live in Juneau, so at least one of the numbers work :)
Unfortunately, the pricing link isnt bringing up a thing for me.
StartAnISP 03-11-2003, 06:54 PM Should be fine, try it now.. Not sure what the problem could have been. Let me know if you have any further trouble.
vibesolutions 03-11-2003, 08:00 PM i'd be interested too since i have a bunch of webmaster sites but the admin fee turns me off :(
StartAnISP 03-11-2003, 08:06 PM Sorry to hear that.. As you know, we have to sell in volume in order to sell cheap. Less than 20 customers can't really be considered volume.
We use to have a monthly minimum of $100 a month and it did not take effect for 3 months. This really bothered people a whole lot more than the $25 admin fee we have now.
We certainly do look forward to hearing from you at a time when you can put on 20 customers in a month or so. Please let me know if I can answer any questions for you.
smartcap 03-11-2003, 10:31 PM How much would it be if i wanted to set up my own realm?
StartAnISP 03-12-2003, 01:01 AM Custom Realm setup fees range from $199 to $650 depending on the network. The realm info is better explained on the phone. Please feel free to call 888-230-5333 x85 and a rep can explain the realm fees and info for you.
Shannara 03-12-2003, 04:43 PM OK, was finally able to look at the prices on the website. I have to admin, the prices are extortion by limiting how long a person can use the internet through a dialup account. It's a nice try, but all decent ISPs do NOT put limits on how long a person can be dialed into the internet.
There is only one network, H, that allows unlimited, however it is not available in Alaska. ... All other networks are unusable, if you actually want to compete with the local dialup companies.
StartAnISP 03-12-2003, 06:19 PM Extortion? Geesh, a bit harsh don't you think?
This is just a matter of understanding how the ISP business works.
ALL wholesale Internet providers put limits in place and they are usually much lower than what we offer.
Look around at what's out there then go back to our site and see what we offer.
The national average for a dialup user is around 30 hours give or take 5 hours either direction.
So, the usage limits are no even an issue with 95% of your dialup user base anyhow.
Just because you see most RETAIL ISP's offering unlimited service does not mean that is how they buy it from a wholesaler etc. The retail ISP is able to offer unlimited service for one reason, VERY few people use a TON of Internet. In fact, there are VERY few people that make the cost of Internet access more expensive for the rest.
Here is another example of how the averages work for ISP's. Ex... ISP's can only afford to exist because of something called a user to modem ratio. Basically ISP's could never afford to have a phone line and modem for everyone of their customers that exist. If they did then the cost of the phone line would be more than the amount the customer paid for service each month. The lines are shared by many users. Some people think that an unlimited connection means that they are allowed to stay connected all the time. For example, they think it's OK to use ping software to keep their connection up while they are off at the movies for an evening. Of course this is not the definition of an unlimited connection, this is the definition of a dedicated connection which cost MUCH more than a SHARED connection.
Hopefully I have explained this well. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
Shannara 03-14-2003, 04:01 PM I guess your right, it was a bit harsh. Thanks for the info. And your right, I shouldn't of compared you to a retail ISP :)
StartAnISP 03-14-2003, 04:05 PM Not a problem and I am glad I was able to explain in properly without sounding argumentative. Please let me know if you have any further questions about our services.
