Can you help? I need:

1-5GB of bandwidth transfer
10+MB of space
PHP/SQL
SSI
PERL
CGI-BIN

I want it pretty cheap, but realiable!! I don't need much because I probably won't host people- I'm going to use this for a personal site which includes using Greymatter. I'm just stuck on which host and/or domain registering company. I was deciding on below10host.com and teknohosting.com <---seems too good to be true, but now I'm just unsure. If anyone has any experience on those hosts, please give me your review of it. Or if you have any strong recommendation of other hosts/domain registars please post them. Thank you in advance!! :)

one thing at teknohosting.com that turned me away... "Data Transfer (MB/month): Unlimited" as most WHT members will tell ya, theres no such thing because there's no such thing (if you want more explanation, search for "unlimited" in the forum)

below10host.com seems ok, if you search for below10host.com you'll find some posts recommending their service and their reliable uptime

never had experience with any of them really, but i would not recommened teknohosting.com because i believe in strongly that there's no such thing as Unlimited Data Transfer... thats only what hosts who try to trick you would do! :)

Why don't you try telaserv.net ?

The domain reg is 12 USD and they have a good plan fitting your needs at 10 dol/mth.

Best reg

Dorkette,

For hosting, are you looking specifically for NT or Unix hosting?

Domain registration... If you're looking for cheap, try www.gkg.net. They'll register you're names for $9.99/year.

Cheers!

I like to keep my domain registrations separate from my hosting accounts.

For Domain registrations consider:
www.bottomdollardomains.com
www.000domains.com

For Hosting consider:
www.hostmatters.com
www.wizardshosting.com

And scan other postings on WHT for more recommendations. Best Wishes!

Why do you prefer this ? (keeping your domain names separate from hosting accounts)

John, if I may....

It's kindof like not putting all your eggs in one basket.

Thanks Rob, your're correct. By keeping things separate you can avoid many problems when things go wrong with a company or your relationship to them.

By keeping these items separate, you can:
Change registrars easily
Change webhosts easily
Avoid having a webhost register your domain in their name. (though, rarely a problem now)
Etc.

<<EDIT>>

<<MOD NOTE:>>
"I have been with them for 2 months now..." - yeah, yeah, *someone needs to familiarize themselves with the forum rules.

If I am not mistaken, Valvetnetwork is a Fasthosts.co.uk reseller?

What I know for sure is that their message board is hosted on a F2S.com (It doesn't work either). It might be just be me, but that doesn't seem too professional.

Hye thank you for your help everyone, I need to consider.
Yes sometimes it is better do have a separate hosting company and domain registar.
I'm not sure if I'm looking for NT or unix hosting, I'm only 14 years old and I don't understand that very well. I don't know if I may seem young to buy a domain.....maybe not because people younger than me have done it. I basically want a good, cheap host to host my personal sites. :)
Anyways all yur help has been greatly appreciated by me, thanks!!

What happens if your registrar goes out of business? Will they inform you that another company has taken over the domain, so that you can manage/renew it from there?

I suppose that a big number of companies selling domains are in fact resellers of the really big ones.

I suppose that in fact the domains are administered by these entities. In fact this is a good question.

Okay I've surfed through other hosts and such, with a few questions.
What exactly is telnet(SSH) and when do I need it? Some hosts I like, but they don't offer that. Maybe I don't need it. Well thank you everyone and to those who emailed me about their services. I'm still reconsidering. :)

telnet n.:
An Internet communications protocol that enables a computer to function as a terminal working from a remote computer.

Chances are, if you haven't been stuck and had to use it, you don't need it. Handy for debugging scripts, etc., but like you said, many hosts don't offer telnet/SSH access.

Just wondering what did you edit?
I don't remember posting anything that was against the WHT rules & regulations..none the less, sorry...

Just for the record, what did I type that needed to be edited?

monkey, you can't advertise your services outside the advertising forum, nor can you recommend your own services here.
