Hello :) I hope not to be OT.
is somebody of you running a bigger classifed ads website, too?
Could you please tell me which script you are using? Right now I've about 25,000 ads online, and.. *please do not laugh at me* I'm using 6 installations of Gossamer-Threads Links2 flat to mange all this stuff. I know it was a wrong decision... but the website grew faster than I was hoping ;)
What I do not want is sort of matchmaking only script where the user is only able to make "searches" instead of browsing through all the ads.
BTW the software should be REALLY, REALLY stable and reliable and not cost toooooo much. It should be EASY to install, manage and modify, too :) I do not have any sql skills.... but I will start learning if necessary ;)
I'd be very glad if you could tell me which software of which company you are using. It would be also interesting to know how many registered useres and ads you have... and the server resources you need for the classified ads.
Thanks A LOT for your help!

what are the features you wont?
how about turning your email feature on?
Hi tortellini,
Why don't you upgrade to Gossamer-Threads LinksSQL? That will handle a lot more links than the flat-file version.

The most stable set of classifieds scripts out there are those provided by
http://www.e-classifieds.net
I recommend the software. I own the Premium Edition.
However, I don't recommend the company. Their documentation will get you up and running but there is no real practical operating manual. Their support site and knowledge-base, only open to purchasers, is limited and difficult to use. And after your 30-day setup period they will charge you $75 an hour for all technical support requests.
I have nothing nice to say about them.
IMHO, you'd be better off converting your site to Links SQL. Less work, low conversion factor, and better support via the Links Forum and Gossamer Threads.

thanks a lot for your replies
i was also thinking about getting links sql... but it scares me coz I do not have any sql skills and i will have to use/get a lot of mods just to have it running as it is now... but without having such cool features like
- friendly user registration + edit/delete ad
- double private messaging
- adding to favourits
- photo uploads
- mail when new ad in certain category
this are the features which will be the most interesting foe me.
Chas... I did already look for mods for Links SQL but I did not find nothing as listed above. Or do you know some good resources (except resource center of gossamer) where I can find such mods? Cheers!
Spcover... thanx! e-classifieds looks really good. price between $900 or $1500 (did not understand yet which version is the right one). But it's a REAL pitty to hear that they will charge after a month for every support request. Is there at least a forum running somewhere where users can help eachother?
Thanks again!

e-classifeds works fine, and though there is a user support forum on the site, it's moderated and I've never had a post actually show up in the forums. A bit pricey, but there are not many options that I could find at the time.
I own two licenses, went back to the site 13 months after purchasing them (having not yet deployed them due to other project priorities) and wanted to download the latest version. They said sure, as long as I paid the 100% maintenance fee.
I'm going to replace them when I get the time. I'm probably going to write my own. It's not rocket science for the features that you get.
The code is not particularly well written - looks hacked together for the most part.

thanks for this comment... FULL price to get the update?? Wow this guys are doing a "strange business" as far as I understand this word.
So what do you suggest? Links SQL costs $500 and needs a LOT of mods... on the other hand e-classified looks like "ready to use" but of course it will take time too, to get it running suiting my needs.
Are there really only 2 possibilities? I've seen hundreds of CHEAP and bad made/working scripts around... but are there only 2 professional alternatives? and... which one will be the best? ;)))
I'm really happy to see that you are helping me :D thanx a LOT!

Xcent makes a fairly decent ASP app named ClassifiedsPro that will work with either an Access or SQL DB. It now comes with a membership system and will tie in with their other software, AuctionPro, etc...

Hope that helps...
