Anyone knoe of an aussie ISP that allows Unix/Linux as the users OS?

OS should not be a problem when it comes to net access through an ISP. I have clients who uses only linux and they're doing fine connecting (dialup & adsl) through their linux boxes.

ISP's allow you to connect using any OS you like. However they will only provide support for a Windows 9x/XP/2K setup.

that's because their setup/workings and systems are based on customisations to IE. Provided you're issued with a username, password and dialup number, you can connect on anything.

Warp is right, most ISP only have tech support for setting up on Windows, but armed with the above login details, you can setup on any OS you want.

So, who do you prefer for aussie dialup then? :)

I stay away from national players - the service (most of the time) is no where near as good as the local ISP. Check out all your local ISPs. What state are you in? Some members here may be able to recommend one near you. I'm in WA and there are a handful of excellent locally owned ISPs.

I'm in Victoria :)

I'm in Perth and Telstra and Optus are the only good 1s where I am.

Why checkout your local ISP? iiNet (http://www.iinet.net.au/) will probably assimilate it to the collective soon enough (they aren't called iiBorg (http://www.iiborg.net/) for nothing you know ;) ).

iPrimus has very good connection speeds for dialup (at least it did in December when I was last hme in Oz). I've connected to them via Linux without much trouble. Just remember to use PAP as your protocol.

And no they don't offer support for Linux either...
