Odd question but one I need answered.

If you had an @aol.com email address but you canceled the service; the email will be inactive. But will the account still exist? Or will another user be able to sign up for the canceled account?

they leave screenname in the db for 6 months, after that they make it available for others to use.

That is correct. However, if you created an AIM Screen name as well of the same AOL Screen name, than that AIM Screen name will never be removed and no one on AOL can re-register the AOL Screen name.
