Initially setting up a 550.
The DSL Static IP connection is live, checked with a desktop.
Entered the IP, subnet and gateway numbers in the LCD. LCD is now displaying the IP. Status lights indicate network connection on network interface 1.

When entering http://<ip numer> into my destop's web browser on a different cable account/modem, I'm not able to get into the 550...just get a Cannot find server or DNS Error Internet Explorer message.

This seems easy enough, any suggestions on troubleshooting?

BTW, the desktop is going thru a linksys switch (DHCP on) connected to the cable modem with a Cox.net account.

The 550 is connected to a static IP account with DSLExtreme, if this helps any....

Thnx for any assist!

Note: I can FTP into the 550, but nothing comes up on the web browser with http://ipnumber

Any ideas?

I had the same problem...
After a OS restore the setup worked.

Yep, that did the trick! Thnx!

Interesting note re: OS restore...I had to have a copy of the OS Restore CD in both of my CD drives (CD-RW & DVD-ROM) to work...when I booted up on a single CD, got a VFS:Cannot open root device message.

Anyways, it worked.

The CD is "dumb" and will only work properly if there's a single NIC and a single CD drive in the system. 2+ NICs and/or 2+ CD drives = potential problems.

also has to be a specific NIC - there are only 4 or 5 nics that you can use
