View Full Version : Help with homework please! - hosting related
Gantic 03-08-2003, 10:52 AM I just need everyone to answer this quick questionnaire please!
If you have never bought hosting then don't bother but if you have:
Which company did you buy your hosting from? (url would be useful)
What price did you pay for your hosting (not the domain)?
What things are good about your hosting company and what features do you mainly use? eg good support, 5 POP3 accounts, PHP, MySQL, Catchall Email, WAP, CGI, Unlimited bandwidth, uptime, Cron jobs, 20mb etc.
What do you want that your current hosting provider doesnt... provide and what bad points are there about your provider? eg Subdomains, Autoresponders etc
Thank you very much for your time!
TheTech 03-08-2003, 11:04 AM Exactly..what kind of homework is this?
Gantic 03-08-2003, 11:12 AM Business Studies coursework... We have to do a study on a thing and I chose to do this since I know more about this than most things - we have to do primary research, secondary research etc and this is a piece of my primary research :)
John D 03-08-2003, 11:17 AM Well any cmpany that offers "unlimited" bandwidth are lying..

Gantic 03-08-2003, 11:18 AM Please, can you just do the questionnaire, I really need some answers :(
John D 03-08-2003, 11:24 AM Just thought that info would help,
If you are doing reports on companies would it not be useful that some offer this service even though its not possible?
I think it would be very important for your report.
Gantic 03-08-2003, 11:25 AM Hmmm ok thanks!
Coach 03-08-2003, 12:20 PM *sighs*
Since no one else bothers staying on topic here... This information is old (three + years), but it might be useful.
Which company did you buy your hosting from?
Jarvis Entertainment Group
What price did you pay for your hosting (not the domain)?
Seems like it around $5.
What things are good about your hosting company and what features do you mainly use? eg good support, 5 POP3 accounts, PHP, MySQL, Catchall Email, WAP, CGI, Unlimited bandwidth, uptime, Cron jobs, 20mb etc.
The feature that was great is that I had about 4 gigs of space and flexible transfer limits. It was a semi-sponsored plan, so I got more than most people would have at $10 a month.
What do you want that your current hosting provider doesnt... provide and what bad points are there about your provider? eg Subdomains, Autoresponders etc
The reason I left them is that I was running UBB at the time on the forum and I wanted to upgrade to vBulletin. They didn't offer php or MySQL at the time and thus I left. I left on good terms with them and thanked them for their outstanding service. Downtimes were rare. I've heard mixed reviews on them recently, mostly due to the Invision Board/Ikonboard mess, but I liked them when I was there.
Gantic 03-09-2003, 07:35 AM Excellant coach, cheers :) keep 'em coming!

Support, support, support, and also I'd have to add in support. They also have decent prices for what they offer, including support.
What do you want that your current hosting provider doesnt... provide and what bad points are there about your provider? eg Subdomains, Autoresponders etc
More bandwidth is the only thing my current hosting provider doesn't offer without getting into high prices (which should be expected though as bandwidth = $$) I've had no bad things happen while with Hosting Matters. My account was down for a little bit of time due to a server issue. The issue was brought to light in their support forums very quickly and a solution was provided. Couldn't ask more for their support!
