View Full Version : Ridiculous LONG time for nameserver switch

Is it just me or has something hit the internet in the last week.

I've modified the DNS info for about 10 domains last weekend. Today, only about half are working.

These domains were registered with GoDaddy and CIRA (OpenSRS).

Doing a whois shows that they have been updated, but they just aren't going anywhere, or they are still going to the old server.

I'm starting to think that its because my DNS end in .WS?

Anyone?

www.andpop.com -- Works fine for me. With and Without the www .
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=andpop.com shows that things are properly set up.

www.reliableauto.ca seems to have problem. I did a DNSReport search and there are a number of errors in there for the DNS set up. http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=reliableauto.ca

jmarus.com has a big bunch of errors too
http://www.dnsreport.com/tools/dnsreport.ch?domain=jmarus.com

Not so much the DNS Registrar fault but the DNS setup might not be done right.

I had about 5 nameserver changes this week. All went off without a hitch.

I've noticed over the past 5 or 6 weeks that certain ISP's seem to be taking longer to update DNS changes than others. MSN seems to be taking up to 3 days longer than AOL, Earthlink or even NetZero for new domains or domains whose nameservers have been modified to propogate?

We use 3 seperate paid ISP's here in the office, and I have 2 more on my home PC (one paid one free), all but MSN seem to be taking 1 or 2 days as usual, but MSN has taken up to 6 days for one domain I registered, and 4 to 5 days for the rest that I've registered or modified over the past month and a half.

Just my input from observations,
Scott

check www.dnsreport.com to see if there are any errors along the dns train.

Got everything working. Some stupid errors on my part. But they still were taking longer than usual.

should setting up my own name servers propagate in the same time it takes for a normal DNS switch?
ie. 1-2 days?
Thanks

More like 48 to 72 hours.. But best to give it a week.

domain that was transfered to my place last week took almost 4 days to "work" with all ISP's

When we swap nameservers it shows for us within 6 hours. I'm in America though.

DNS's resolve instantly unless cached (ie I look it up before I know it resolves), typicaly 3-6 hrs before it resolves properly in that situation.

Yes, nameservers sometimes update within a few minutes to a few hours. But your ISP doesn't update sometimes for up to a week! Those Lazy Bums. ;)

Then of course the cache issues comes into play which is annoying too.
