View Full Version : Domain name registration
Ideasmiths 06-02-2001, 09:14 AM I STILL cannot get my domain name registered at godaddy.com or affordabledomain.net (reseller of goddaddy).
The machine keeps rejecting my various attempt to pay it, saying that the form has error and ask me to try again. I have tried ALL the combinations but no dice. Since both registrar don't have a support person I can talk to (check their website), I guess I have to pass on their service.
Anyone has any experience with registerfly.com?
If I still can't get a satisfactory try in a week time, I guess I have to go back to nameboy which have given me good service so far (althought at US$19 per name).
If any of the support stuff at godaddy are reading this, please ask your programmer to write a script telling customer WHICH part of the form is wrong or must I enter the information in reverse order.
Oh btw, godaddy versign certificate has expired
PagesUSA 06-02-2001, 10:15 AM I don't know anything about godaddy, but a site with multiple errors and an expired certificate does not inspire me to spend money with them.
If you have a company that you have had good service with, why are you balking at 8 or 10 dollars a year more?
The reason it costs a few dollars more is probably to cover the cost of the good customer service you have come to expect.
Just my 2 cents
Chris:)
Ideasmiths 06-02-2001, 10:26 AM Good answer B-)
I am registering one of my secondary domain name to see if the godaddy registrar is good. eg .com with nameboy and .net with godaddy.
It was mentioned here that godaddy has a good service history but ..... Anway, consumers always would like to go for cheaper solutions, especially for domain names which I would like to protect....eg .net, .org variant so that it won't point to a xxx site B-)

I post this info in the thread in case anyone else has problems with godaddy or affordabledomain.net
John_rwx 06-02-2001, 05:29 PM I transferred one domain over to Registerfly a couple of months ago, and it took over 2 weeks for the transfer to be completed. Most likely an anomoly but I probably won't be back. My favorite low-cost registrars are, in order of preference:
www.000domains.com ($13.50 yr, OpenSRS)
www.bottomdollardomains.com ($12.00 yr, OpenSRS)
www.gandi.net ($10-$11 yr)
www.stargateinc.com ($10 yr new regis, $8 yr transfer)
Gandi.net's interface is a little confusing to work with at times, but I've never had any trouble registering or transfering domains to or from them, and DNS updates went quickly. Overall, though, I prefer the OpenSRS resellers.
Ideasmiths 06-03-2001, 05:08 AM Hi,
Anyone uses stargateinc? It says US$8 per domain if I register 2 or more. That is interesting.
Ideasmiths 06-03-2001, 09:19 AM This is getting frustrating,
I was just at stargateinc page trying to register my 2 domain names and all shown as not available. But I know they are free because of my checks at other registrars.
Is stargate servers down? Because I used other domainnames (even weird ones) and all .com, .net, .org combinations are all reflected as not available.
Only .cc are available..
Dogma 06-03-2001, 12:36 PM It was down for me for about 5 minutes, but i registered 2 domains w/ them and they have been fine. (Referring to Stargateinc)
I have been using namecheap.com for the past two weeks. They charge $8.88 per domain. Thus far, I have not encountered any problem --- the registration process and confirmation were fast. With stargateinc, half of my registrations had problems.
Duster 06-03-2001, 04:21 PM Maybe the stargate got taken over by the Go'aould. :D
Oh, in case people don't know, stargateinc has a referral plan... you get $1 per domain registered through your link. Thus, your costs for the first year can be as low as $7 per domain.
toma1708 06-04-2001, 03:51 AM Try telaserv.net.
I have used the, and it's OK.
