View Full Version : Tera-byte hosted sites down!!
ManWithNoName 06-02-2001, 08:31 AM I just set up an account with tera-byte and this morning I tried to access it and it is down! Tried to PING and I get a request timed out. Cant access the admin screens either.
Anyone experience this from them?
ManWithNoName 06-02-2001, 08:42 AM Ok - it is back up now. Maybe they read this post:)
Dont know how long it was down though. It was down when I woke up this morning.
Just glad to be back up and running.
chaos 06-02-2001, 08:46 AM Tera-Byte have a pretty good reputation, I wouldn't imagine this to be a common thing for them.
ManWithNoName 06-02-2001, 08:57 AM I sent them an email before I posted here and to be fair, they got back to me very fast and they stated that they had to restart the Web server to get me back up and going.
I just wish I knew what caused the server to be rebooted.
Angel78 06-02-2001, 09:06 AM mine site worked just fine? but :) we are obviosly on 2 different servers i suppose
ManWithNoName 06-02-2001, 10:53 AM Well I must be on a relly crappy server, cause my site is not coming up again. It just hangs forever and times out. What is the deal?
big_smooth 06-02-2001, 12:00 PM Question about Tera-Byte.com
Can I host a toplevel domain on a Tera-Byte subdomain?
I believe there is something called URL Cloaking, but I believe that involves RE-DIRECTING instead of actually hosting. Your suggestions are welcomed.
Thanks.
Chicken 06-02-2001, 04:05 PM Well, you could set up a CNAME though I'm not sure if you have DNS control, etc.
ManWithNoName if you are having continual problems with the account, you need to let them know (email support). I don't think they monitor this forum as a support forum, and less than 10 minutes later you were up again.
big_smooth 06-02-2001, 05:54 PM CNAME? Will I need that with my registrar or tera-byte.com?
Chicken 06-02-2001, 06:27 PM Well, who controls, how how do you control your DNS? Basically, what you could map http://www.domain.com to http://something.tera-byte.com but maybe they have options for that (ask), and maybe your registrar would provide this (some do, many do not).

Take a peek at this: http://www.zoneedit.com/doc/faq.html#faq25 You'll want to do web-forwarding.
register.com will do the same thing, but you'll pay for it ($50 a year). ZoneEdit does it for free. You will need to use ZoneEdit as your nameserver for the domain you want forwarded. (zoneedit seems to have a good infrastructure in place, however)

Since you're already with tera-byte, you might want to check out one of their affiliates: http://www.redirection.net/
logose 06-04-2001, 04:48 AM I thought terabyte was reliable
Chicken 06-04-2001, 12:30 PM For the most part they have been logose. I've been extremely happy with their network, with only a couple of burps here and there (to be expected). I don't know much about their shared server offerings, which I believe ManWithNoName has. He might be on a buggy server, or who knows. Overall though, they have been reliable (my experience at least).
