I'm looking into purchasing a high end digital still camera and want to see if anyone had any suggestions or experiences with certain models/manufacturers. My budget is about $3,000 for this camera and so far I'm looking at what Nikon and Olympus have to offer.
Any and all input is very much appreciated.

Hmmm.. I've just had the cheap ones! I'd ask some professional photographers and see if you could find one that doe the same type of work you want to ue it for. Product shots (commercial) or portrait type pics, etc.

If you're looking for comment or products rating, this link to amazon.com might help http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/search-handle-form/102-5877870-3170564, could also try epinions.com..

Someone I know does the photography for Lands End, I'll ask them and tell you.
BTW, they just came out w/ a camera that makes around 18mb images. You have to have it connected to a computer/controlled by the computer. It uses a prism to divide the light into red, blue, green and then has a 4.4 megapixel sensor for each color!!
I think its like $10,000 + thought (/me is leaning heavily towards the +)

Check out the following links for good digital camera info and reviews:

Also, I believe Canon has a well-reviewed digital SLR around your price range.
Aloha
cameras I owned I had a darkroom for about 15+ years
Canon F-1 electronic
Canon Ae-1
both these were in the 80's
replaced with nikon 8008
replaced with n-90
sold those
now use a nikon 990
mostly for web stuff and panos
still have a Voigtlander wiht Zeis lenses
and a nikonos for underwater
my thoughts are
NIKON then canon
but get a nikon ;)

Thanks everybody for the input and links. It seem's I have a sizeable amount of research and tire kicking to do before I can be comfortable settling down with one make/model, I'll post what I finally end up purchasing here.

One consideration when you're looking at high-end cameras, and one reason I'd lean towards the D30, is whether you have already made an investment in a manufacturer's system. I have a few EOS lenses for my existing two camera bodies, and the D30 will use Canon's current line of lenses.
Apart from that it has just about every feature imaginable. The only Nikon digital that compares to it is the D1, which is a couple thousand dollars more. I'm not really familiar with what Olympus offers, but as far as I know they don't have anything comparable -- an interchangeable-lens SLR. If you're going to spend $3000 or so, it's the only way to go.
