Cobalt has stopped selling the XTR. Seems like we were NOT "the only company with that problem".

So it has. Hmmm. A bit over priced and problematic, makes you wonder why? :D

I think they are changing the magazine ads we see to "RAQ, Roll and Recall".

I heard the rubber buttons on the front of the server were supplied by Firestone so maybe.... nahhh.

That was a good one, chicken! Anyone know why?

We have numerous RAQs in our inventory from when we first started hosting. We tried moving customers to our Ensim servers and they did not like that one bit. They did not like the 'Apples to Oranges' move. So what we though was that we would *upgrade* our RAQ2's, RAQ3's to XTR's and everyone would be happy.

They still have it listed on their site.

It just looks like they are not pushing them.

Try to buy one -

It isn't due to popular demand. Host2Own told us that Cobalt stopped selling them because of the bugs. Support was overwhelmed. Whenever we had Cobalt issues in the past we couldn't handle, Cobalt techs would fix it within 12 hours. It took a week to get help with our XTR. We had the Perl-d process crashing our box everytime someone tried to load large files. The box would reboot, and then the person trying to uplaod, would try again. Same results. This is after we found out that if more then 6 people checked their mail through the new web mail, it would crash the box. Cobalt disabled it for us until they could find a fix.

Anyway...

Here are just a few of the reasons:

RaQ XTR will not boot/progress past setup
* Solution: RMA (only); electrical disturbance on the first
production line (faulty/deffective).

RaQ XTR will not recognize extra drives for RAID array
* Solution: perform OS restore XTR with all drives present

RaQ XTR does not work with 4 memory modules:
* Solution: Unknown; temporary fix: limit RAM to placement
in only 2 modules (possible later RMA/recall?).

RaQ XTR has re-occuring excessive CPU usage
* Solution: telnet in, run top, kill process manually
(appears to be related to the GUI interface, ie:
/usr/sbin/httpd -f /etc/admserv/conf/httpd.conf)

RaQ XTR has re-occuring RAID-1 and RAID-5 failures
* Solution: (?) 2.6.17 firmware update (unconfirmed). Any
idea where to obtain this with detail instructions?

To re-use any drives (which aren't faulty), you need to
remove them, and run fdisk on them to earse any partition.
*DO NOT* re-use without doing this, as it will screw up
the RAID-1/5 arrays.

RaQ XTR has serial ports reversed in manual
* Solution: reverse diagram on page 237 of XTR manual

RaQ XTR PCI SCSI card isn't recognized
* Solution: unknown.

RaQ XTR has 250-site imposed limit (undocumented)
* /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/Cobalt/Product_raq.pm,
locate "$Site_Max" and change. Reboot server.

and the list goes on.

XTR's recalled due to software problems, for at least 6 to 8 weeks.
