price isn't everything. Go with a reseller that fits your needs, don't just make your decision based on price.

But yes, FDC has prices that are quite low.

yes, I agree. but...the price is one of the most important things if you want to be a reseller and want to make a profit in the future.

Price is definitely an important factor but uptime, reliability and support responsiveness are vital when you are hosting your clients' account. Paying a higher price for that is definitely more than worth the while. In the short, medium and long run, it is actually cheaper.

But all said and done, I am not referring to FDC or any company but just a general observation from the client's end.

It's easy to beat!

Just do same as FDC, have a good pre-sales response time and once people signup........don't do any support!!!!!!

So you can have 300 servers with only one guy and ABSOLUTLY NO SUPPORT AT ALL!

I'm still waiting since 6 days now.....I have just asked a little question regarding DNS.

Well, can-us, if that is true, I remember reading somewhere that they now have forums. Maybe you should ask your question on those?

I use their forum. I send email to
sales@fdcservers.net
adam@fdcservers.net
info@fdcservers.net
support@fdcservers.net

...nothing.

plus they don't allow adult content. I would think as a "professional" you would want to be able to service any client with legal content and not those you find morally favorable. I will not have my resellers restricted to censorship.

I'll give you an idea why a cheap host is VERY expensive in the end.... (PLEASE NOTE: expensive does not mean quality! Thats why choosing a host is so difficult)

You get a very very cheap reseller account, sell webhosting accounts, have alot profit etc etc etc etc...

A few weeks later, the clients start with complaining about the slow server and the 99% downtimes. You can't do anything about it since its just a cheap reseller account. You didn't pay for the quality...

What would happen then? The money you earned, will be ......, because everyone wants a refund and clients leave you...

What do you think is better?

The amount of resources you get for a given price as a reseller will *never* dictate your earning potential for those resources. Example being, you can pick up 100mbps of cogent, or 100mbps of InterNAP, because of the quality difference there, you may find it easier to bring the InterNAP sales to a profit long before the Cogent sales.

Point being, lotsa resources for cheap, always attractive, but on an educated market, dollar isn't often the bottom line, only one ingredient in the pie, without the other ingredients in check, might have trouble selling the product to an educated market [or relatively so] such as WHT.

lol just looking at the server right now, imperial, load 7.13,17.86,19.87

not typical , load went high then they upgraded it to 2.4 gig p4 from a celery and doubled the ram to 1 gb, but they seem to have a problem with some clients with excessive cgi use and dodgy scripts.
i just use the account there for a personal site and a couple of test sites, nothing important and its cheap and cheerful, adam seems great so far but the server does seem to run away now and again.

Yep, thats why i left them. They great you at the door then leave you hanging in the basement.

Email sales, who do you get: Adam

Email support, who do you get: Adam

Email anyone, who do you get: Adam

His email box must be full as hell when he gets home from school.

I have to agree with can-us. Pre-sale support is goos. The problem isonce you have signed up you are on your own.

First of all your COMPLETELY wrong.

I do not work in SALES.

You can only contact me via Support since I am the head of the re seller department.

And also - that stupid comment about my email box being full when I get home from school?

I am 19, out of school, working full time for FDC.

You need to get your facts straight before you make accusations and not needed comments.

Thanks for that adam, FDC's servoce so far has been OK with a few tweaks it could be quite good, but you seriously have to get yourself off spews, and you need to keep an eye on the servers a little more closely. The P4 is doing a lot better job but it does seem to get out of control now and again even when CPU and RAM arent bottlenecks, perhaps the disk subsystem is overtaxed? an IDE RAID or even better scsi (but i was thinking of a budget solution) may change this, and also keeping an eye on the load more often.

A ticket desk should hhelp immensely, also where are the mrtg's you mentioned would be reayd a while back?

Yes. this is desperately needed. The forum is ok for basic stuff, but nothing beats tickets.

Have been in IT support for 8 plus years and I am over 30, oh no...LOL

No-one can expect service without a ticket system. Just the way it is. We ignore emails or forget them but the ticket is there in your face and it has SLA's etc and the o'l boss gets his but kicked if you go over it and he will come and kick yours. Accountability baby. No other way.

But a good ticket system is not good if it is not monitored... just my many, many years experience with the realy big companies, the biggest.
