how many years has it been operating? also, how big is your monthly bandwidth usage?

The forum consumes about 20GB per month (without mod_gzip).... It's been operating for over a year now.

and im fairly sure with its popularity, the bandwidth may double in the next year !!

20GB per month? well thats smaller than i though. additional questions:

-how many active users do you have on average?
-what is your average pageviews per month?
-how much space are you consuming? (in MB)

1. On average we have about 200-400 active posters per day. Obviously this figure fluctuates throughout the week (particularly weekends when everyone goes offline) and it also depends on if there's some hot topics up for discussion (any flame war will drag numbers up). I also know that there are probably 100-200 members lurking (not posting, just browsing the board) and about double (about 400-500) browsing the forums as a guest (not a registered member).

2. Average pageviews is in the low-mid 6-figures - Carlos informs me on active days the forum gets 20K pageviews, so balancing it all out (on the law of averages), it probably gets about 320,000-400,000 (approx) pageviews a month.

3. Standard vB installation, which isn't big at all (only a few megabytes) - most of the data is stored in the MySQL DB (which takes up 109MB as of today).

Bandwidth for this upcoming month will be further reduced thanks to Carlos installing mod_gzip on the server.......

Oh dear... :(

Is it common for the mySQL DB to be that huge?

I'm planning to begin hosting with Tera-Byte on Plan 4 (99mb space, 20gb bandwidth) and intend to use vBulletin as well (it's a gaming site).

If the DB gets that huge then that would be a real downer :( :( :(

This is a HUGE board, dont worry,if the board is all you run,99 megs will be fine, most boards dont take up that much.
mod_gzip is something that sends information compressed,so it cuts bandwidth in half.

The database it not huge, you have to consider that there are already ~80.000 posts in the db, so 109mb is not so big.

You'll be fine Colin - and if you do run out of space, then you probably have enough users to do a little bit of advertising to cover the cost of moving up a plan.
