 Why in the world are rackmount cases soooooo rediculously expensive?! I could buy an entire computer for the same amount they want for a decent rackmount case..

How about if I pay you $120 and you make me a good rackmount cases (no power supply needed). The case has to be made by strong/thick enough metal to withold roughly 1000 pounds of weight put on it 24/7/365 for years?

Ehh, what do you mean? I'm not talking about cabinets, a single 2u chassis can run $700+...

Your case has to be able to withold heavy loads because you have to assume that you may have to put 40 servers on top of it, each of atleast around 30 Lbs.

Also, the chasis has to be well designed for a good ventilation. The more expensive the chasis is, the better it must be (i.e. more suitable for server environment).

NickRac,

I've got a RMC-1G (http://www.amamax.com/rmc1g.html) 1U chassis that I bought but never used. It's a 1U chassis with a 250w PS.

It retailed for $175.

Make me an offer and it's yours.

Frank

I have a 2U / 300W (3PCI riser card included), and lockable front.

2 5.25 bays (1 cd-rom is already in there, included in price), 2 3.5 floppy bays (no floppy currently in), and up to 3 hdds next to the motherboard).

Air filter for power supply is included.

3 80mm high-capacity fans included.

$165.00 (+ shipping).

That isnt necessarily true. Most cases come with mounting brackets needed to mount into a cabinet. If the dont, you shelv them on a rackmount shelf. You dont stack them ontop of other cases, unless you want to break the whole darn cabinet and strip all of the screws out.
