I think it might of been your isp, or you.

serverhost has been great for me up until today (June 1st)

Hmm, wasnt just me... It looks like it was down from around 1am to 10am MST today, and down 2am - 4am wednsday morning... Other then that, the server has had great uptime, now if i could just get jeff to install gzip... hah :)

Here is a good step by step installation guide for mod_gzip:

Serverhost does not install software for free as far as I know.

Yeah, it looks easy to install, i think eva wrote up that artical.. good guy ;) I requested them to compile mod_gzip into the server when i ordered it, but wasnt done, so jeff said he would have it done for me... i guess i could do it myself, i just dont want to screw things up :)

I apologize for the delay in response, I've been working on network issues in Greenville for over 48 hours straight without sleep. Our upstream provider had some equipment failures and misconfigurations between them and their upstream, leaving us offline.

Please understand that we are working to correct any and all problems, and that only four Plusweb/Serverhost servers were affected.

Sorry for any inconvenience. Customers can contact me directly for more information.
